The Secret in My Husband’s Glove Compartment Destroyed Our Two Years Chapter 09

Everything of yours is here. I didn’t leave anything

out.”

The day we signed the agreement, William pushed

a cardboard box across the table

There were no gifts inside

Just shopping lists I’d written. A household schedule I’d taped to the fridge. And that sticky note, which had been folded so many times

William had handwritten this line on it before we

were married

[From now on, every major decision concerning

our family, I’ll discuss with Camilla first. I won’t

make her carry it alone.

Why did you keep these?”

I found them when I was cleaning out the house.”

William picked up one of the lists

You wrote Buy pain relief patches on the 3rd.”

I saw it that day. But I only remembered to order

Leona’s.”

He picked up the household schedule

You circled our anniversary in red. Next to it your

wrote Hope he doesn’t break his promise this

time.”

I saw that too.”

But I told myself I’d handle Leona’s stuff first. I’d make it up to you when I got back.”

It wasn’t that you didn’t see what I needed.”

I put everything back in the box

You just thought they could all be put off.”

Yes.”

This time, William didn’t make excuses

I used to think loving someone meant solving

their problems.”

Leona kept having problems. So I kept going to

her.”

But marriage isn’t about standing beside whoever

needs me more.”

You should have figured that out sooner.”

I know it doesn’t help to say it now.”

Then sign.”

William held the pen. But his hand didn’t move

Could we try living separately first instead of

divorcing?”

No.”

Not even six months?”

No.”

I’ve already cut all contact. I paid the money

back.”

William. I spent two years waiting for you to

include me in your decisions.”

I’m not spending the rest of my life waiting for

you to learn how to be a husband.”

What if I’ve already learned?”

Then it’ll help you in your next relationship.”

His eyes went red

Camilla. You really don’t want me at all anymore?”

I did want you.”

When you left me at the restaurant, I wanted your to come back.”

When you took money from our joint account, I wanted you to ask me first.”

When your mother made me apologize for Leona, I wanted you to say, Camilla did nothing wrong.”

But every single time, you didn’t choose me.”

William lowered his head. Tears fell onto the edge of the agreement

I’m sorry.”

I heard you.”

You can’t forgive me?”

No.”

He nodded. Finally signed his name

He set his wedding ring on the table and slid it

toward me

This is yours.”

I don’t want it.”

Then I’ll keep it.”

Whatever you want.”

William opened the final property statement

The house goes to you. The bank has already

issued the loan change consent form. Once the

divorce is registered, the remaining mortgage will transfer to your name.”

I’m voluntarily waiving my share of the equity.”

The auto loan, and all other debts related to

Leona, are solely my responsibility.”

Is this compensation?”

No.”

He handed me the signed documents

I’m just giving back what was always yours. Your choices and your security.”

The lawyer confirmed that the house ownership

mortgage transfer, auto loan reassignment, and

assumption of other debts were all written into the

formal agreement, with the bank’s consent letter

attached to the documents

As I stood up, he called after me

Camilla. What hurts me most isn’t that you don’t love me anymore.”

It’s that I finally realize you loved me so much

once, yet never asked anything difficult of me.”

I stopped at the door

Yeah.”

I only hoped you wouldn’t always make me the

loser whenever I came up against someone else.”

That afternoon, we filed our divorce application at

the county clerk’s office

Thirty days later, we walked into the clerk’s office

again as scheduled. The divorce was finalized

When we came out, William stood on the steps

He didn’t follow

And I didn’t look back.
