I Woke Up From a Coma and Found Out My Fiancé Was Protecting My Killer Chapter 03

The second I stepped inside, I froze. One month. That was all it took for this house to fill with things that didn’t belong to me.

My slippers were gone from the shoe rack. In their place—a pink pair. Willa’s cartoon throw pillows were scattered across the sofa.

Her photos sat beneath the TV stand. My gaze swept over every inch of it. I kept looking. Every corner of that place felt like a stranger’s home. The chill just kept sinking deeper.

Landon scrambled to hide everything and fumbled for an excuse. “She’s your friend. What was I supposed to say when she put her stuff out?”

Willa nodded frantically. “Paige, I just found a new place. I should really move out.”

I looked at them. Said nothing. Walked straight into the bedroom.

Foreign bedsheets. I took a deep breath, shoved my emotions down, and pulled my documents from the drawer. I can’t leave the country without a passport. I slipped mine into my bag and zipped it up just as Landon walked in.

He saw me pause and frowned. “What’s that?”

I didn’t look up. “Nothing.”

He didn’t actually care. “Willa’s planning to move out. Aren’t you going to talk her out of it?”

A cold laugh slipped out. “What’s the matter? Can’t stand to see her go?”

His face darkened. “Why would I care if she leaves? Paige, what’s with the attitude ever since you woke up?”

“If she weren’t your friend, I wouldn’t get involved. Forget it. My mistake for caring.”

I looked away. His whole routine—fake anger to cover guilt—I found it pathetic.

Willa left anyway. The second she was out the door, Landon announced he had to work late. Probably pulling an all-nighter. Wouldn’t be home.

I almost laughed. Did they think I was stupid?

I was done pretending. I followed Landon. I watched him walk into a standalone house. I stood at the front door and stared at the keypad. I typed in 101127.

That number meant something to Willa. The day I saved her. Ever since, she’d used it for every passcode she ever made.

Click. The door swung open.

All I felt was disgust. Sickening, gut-twisting disgust.

Their voices drifted from the bedroom. Willa’s voice was tight with worry. “Landon, do you think she’s figured it out? Something feels off about her.”

Landon thought for a moment. “No. We barely even talk in front of her. There’s no way she noticed.” He kissed her forehead gently. “Relax. I’ve got you.”

They walked out of the bedroom wrapped around each other, kissing. Then they saw me. Sitting on the couch. Our eyes met.

The air died.

Willa shoved the man away. Her face lost all color. “P-Paige…”

Landon’s breath stopped. His eyes bulged. “You followed me?”

I didn’t answer that. I asked them instead. “Why?”

Faced with their frozen expressions, every emotion I’d suppressed since waking up erupted. I nearly screamed.

“Why did you betray me?”

“And why did you hide that Willa is the one who almost killed me?”

Their pupils shrank. Willa swayed on her feet. Her eyes flooded with pure panic. She burst into tears.

Landon’s first instinct was to step in front of Willa. Shield her. Watching that felt like acid on my skin.

“How… how do you know?” He rushed forward and grabbed my arm. “She didn’t mean to. And anyway, didn’t we already agree to forgive the driver?”

“Now that you know it’s Willa, you should have even more reason to let it go.”

The words died in my throat. All that rage—gone. Deflated. Nothing left but exhaustion. I looked at him one last time. Then I turned and walked away. Didn’t say a word.
