My BFF Betrayed Me with My Boyfriend! Now Neither of Them Will Leave Me Alone! Chapter 07

A month later, I saw Evan again.

He had a complex case and still couldn’t settle on a surgical plan, so he came to our hospital to discuss the surgery with Peter.

Every cardiothoracic surgeon crowded into Peter’s office.

We stared at the patient’s chart in silence.

After a long while, Peter frowned.

“This surgery is too risky. No team in the United States is willing to take it on. Professor Martin Weber at University Hospital Zurich might be able to handle it.”

Before Evan left, he gave me a complicated look.

His lips parted as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he walked away in silence.

3 days later, we gathered in the conference room for a video call with Professor Weber.

Evan explained the patient’s condition and sincerely asked Professor Weber to fly to Seattle to perform the surgery.

The blue-eyed professor listened for a long time before shaking his head.

He explained that he had been in poor health recently.

He couldn’t tolerate such a long flight, nor did he have the strength to perform such a difficult operation.

The hope drained from everyone’s faces.

Evan’s face went pale, and he forced a smile.

Then Professor Weber raised his hand and pointed at me.

“Athena worked on my team for 3 years. She was the finest student I ever taught. If there’s only 1 person capable of performing this surgery, I believe it’s Athena.”

Everyone was stunned.

Evan stared at me in disbelief and murmured, “So you spent the past 3 years in Zurich.”

I nodded gently.

“Evan, I told you a long time ago. My dream has always been to heal the sick and save lives. I’m willing to devote my entire life to it.”

“It was only a broken hand. Did you really think I would give up my career and disappear for 3 years?”

Then I looked at Peter.

“Dr. Lang, I can perform this surgery.”

After the meeting, Evan hurried after me.

“You’re going to do it? Athena, your hand…”

I cut him off coldly.

“I know what my hand can handle.”

He continued following me.

“It’s not that I don’t trust you, but the success rate is extremely low.
He’s my patient. You don’t need to take such a huge risk.”

I stopped abruptly and looked into his eyes.

“Evan, I don’t care whose patient he is. All I know is that a life is at stake. As long as there’s a chance, even if it’s only 1%, I’ll try.”

I held out my hand, palm facing upward.

“The chart.”

“You’re his attending physician. You know his condition better than anyone.”

“Whether you want to perform this surgery with me is your choice.”

Evan hesitated for a long moment before gently placing the chart in my palm.

Before the surgery, I met with the patient’s family.

A man in a suit was quietly comforting his mother.

He looked up at me and nodded.

“Dr. Ellis, I’m Simon Keane. Dr. Buckley said you were Professor Weber’s student. My father is in your hands.”

Evan spoke solemnly from beside me.

“I need to emphasize this again. The risk of this surgery is extremely high. Dr. Ellis can’t perform miracles…”

The man in the suit nodded.

“No matter what happens, I trust the doctors.”

I met his steady gaze, and a sudden sense of peace came over me.

I signed my name on the surgical plan and gave him a small smile.

“I’ll do everything I can.”
