The Magic That Made the Playboy Who Never Dates Fall for Me Chapter 01

The Magic That Made the Playboy Who Never Dates Fall for Me Chapter 01

A loud BZZZT crackles in my ear—my System just short-circuited. 💀

I hold the rose out to him.

“For you.”

Bro forgot he was even hiding a rose anymore. Like, his brain just blue-screened.

He’s probably used to girls throwing themselves at him, but I guarantee he’s never seen this plot twist before.

He blinks. Twice. Pulls it together.

“Thanks.” He hands me the one behind his back. Those sapphire eyes lock on mine, and that grin? Pure trouble. “In exchange.”

I shake my head. Take his rose. Gently tap the two stems together—

Snap. They knot themselves into a neat little bundle.

I place both roses back into his hands.

“You keep ’em both.”

Mason freezes. Blinks again.

“Why?”

The System, which had been dead quiet, suddenly screeches back to life in my ear:

[HOST! THIS IS WHERE YOU PLAY HARD TO GET! MAKE HIM CHASE YOU!]

Play hard to get?

Got it.

So don’t chase. Don’t force it.

I take a step back.

“Because I like you.”

System: […EXCUSE ME??]

Just to make sure he gets it, I add, dead serious:

“So I want you to have all the pretty roses.”

I swear, if this were an anime, steam would be shooting out of Mason’s ears right now.

He clutches those two roses, doesn’t say a word, and peace-outs on the spot.

But I catch the tips of his ears—still pink.

“System… did I do it right?”

Long pause.

[(Sigh.) You win this round. But I’m watching you. 👀]

Before all this, I was a magician.

Died on stage during an escape act when my partner fumbled the timing.

When I opened my eyes again? Boom—new world.

Sure, the System gave me this whole “make the second lead fall for you” gig.

But honestly?

Getting a second shot at life—and still being able to pull magic—that’s already more than I could’ve asked for.

So for the next few days, I happily keep chasing Mason.

System tells me: If you like someone, bring them breakfast. Pay attention to them.

Cool. That’s exactly what I do.

“Mason, I brought you breakfast.”

I slide into the seat in front of him and plop a yogurt cup on his desk.

He stares at it.

Maybe because he’s lost the upper hand in our last few exchanges, this time he lets out a cold laugh.

“You bring a guy breakfast and it’s just yogurt?”

I ask, “What else do you like?”

He shrugs. “A sandwich.”

I wave my hand over the yogurt—poof—a sandwich appears next to the yogurt.

His eyes go wide.

“Orange juice! I meant orange juice!”

Another wave—sandwich gone, orange juice in its place.

He changes his mind again: “Oh my god—I meant pancakes!”

This time? I don’t wave.

Mason leans back, grinning. “Finally run out of tricks?”

I nod. “If you really want pancakes, I can run to the convenience store and grab you some.”

Something flickers across his face. He goes quiet.

A few seconds later, he slowly sits up straight.

“Bring the sandwich back.”

I wave—sandwich’s back.

He stares at the breakfast in front of him, muttering under his breath:

“This is enough. No need to go buying more. So annoying.”

I catch the tips of his ears going red again and can’t help but smile.

System pipes up: “Wait, didn’t you already buy those pancakes? You’re such a softie.”

I answer:

“The whole point of magic is making people happy and surprising them—not ticking them off.”
