After Three Years as a Deranged Alpha’s Sedative, I Faked My Death Chapter 07
Three years later.Â
Key West.Â
Sunshine, sand, waves, and ripped surfÂ
instructors.Â
Wearing a floral shirt, shorts, and sunglasses, I lounged in the courtyard of the beachfrontÂ
boutique hotel that belonged entirely to me, sipping chilled coconut water.Â
Over the past three years, I had invested the money, bought property, and built a comfortable, financially secure life.Â
As for Adrian, whenever someone happened toÂ
mention him, I treated the whole thing like a joke.Â
I heard the Black family had even built a memorialÂ
grave for me, while Adrian had moved into my oldÂ
apartment and lived there day after day as if heÂ
were guarding a grave.Â
What did any of that have to do with me?Â
“Erin, a hurricane is coming tonight. The weatherÂ
service has issued the highest–level warning, andÂ
every guest has checked out,” Amy, the front deskÂ
clerk, said as she hurried over.Â
“Fine by me. We could use a day off.”Â
I bit down on my straw and waved a handÂ
casually.Â
By nightfall, the wind had grown violent, andÂ
sheets of rain hammered against the windows.Â
I was curled up on the sofa with a sheet mask on,Â
watching a show, when someone suddenly began pounding on the hotel’s reinforced glass entranceÂ
door.Â
“Who is it, and can’t you see the sign saying we’reÂ
closed?”Â
I walked toward the lobby entrance.Â
Through the glass, I saw more than a dozenÂ
bodyguards in black raincoats standing in theÂ
courtyard, blocking every exit from the hotel.Â
I immediately knew whoever had come wasÂ
trouble.Â
Before I could react, someone shattered theÂ
reinforced glass door with a single kick.Â
Wind and rain tore through the lobby.Â
A tall, gaunt man stepped over the shattered glassÂ
and slowly walked inside.Â
He carried no umbrella, and he was soaked fromÂ
head to toe, with his black shirt clinging to hisÂ
body.Â
The face that had once been permanently stamped with arrogance was now so thin it wasÂ
almost unrecognizable, with deeply sunken eyesÂ
and cheekbones jutting sharply beneath his skin.Â
He looked like a man who had not lived a normalÂ
life in years.Â
Adrian.Â
He stared at me with an obsessive, almostÂ
deranged expression.Â
His wolf had clearly recognized my scent.Â
His Alpha pressure exploded through the lobby, leaving Amy barely able to breathe.Â
Then Adrian smiled, and it was the kind of smileÂ
that made every instinct scream danger.Â
“Erin.”Â
His voice was so hoarse I could barely make outÂ
the word.Â
“Are you done playing?”Â
I remained curled up on the sofa and watched him in silence without so much as wrinkling the sheetÂ
mask on my face.Â
Terrified, Amy ducked behind the front desk and crouched there with her head in her hands,Â
trembling uncontrollably.Â
Outside, more than a dozen bodyguards stood in the pouring rain, but not one of them dared approach the Black Pack’s Alpha heir while he was completely out of control.Â
No one spoke inside the lobby.Â
There was only the howl of the hurricane.Â
Adrian’s breathing grew faster and heavier.Â
He was waiting for me to throw myself into hisÂ
arms the way I had three years ago.Â
He was waiting for me to release my white–teaÂ
scent and calm his inner wolf as it teetered on theÂ
edge of collapse.Â
I slowly raised a hand and peeled off the sheet. mask I had been wearing for fifteen minutes.Â
I crumpled it into a ball, tossed it into the trash, wiped the serum from my face with a cleansing cloth, then picked up my phone and opened theÂ
calculator.Â
“Reinforced glass door, custom–made in Germany, including shipping and installation, twelveÂ
thousand dollars.”Â
I studied the screen, my voice as calm as if I wereÂ
reading an invoice.Â
“The Italian marble you damaged costs anotherÂ
thirty–five hundred dollars. Cleaning the blood out of the lobby, including compensation for terrifying my employee in the middle of the night, is anotherÂ
five hundred.”Â
I pressed the equals sign and turned the screen toward him.Â
“Sixteen thousand dollars in total. Card or bankÂ
transfer?”
