My Best Friend’s Perfect Boyfriend Was My Alpha Fiancé Chapter 09
One year later, outside an art studio in the Lycan territory, cedar trees were covered with a thin layer of snow. The afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows and fell softly onto the canvas.
I stood beside the easel, slowly moving my brush across the painting.
Beside me, Rebecca, who had just returned from a trip around the werewolf realm, gossiped while painting.
“I heard the Newmoon Pack is completely ruined. Back then, after Luna Victoria was forced by Alpha Jonathan to terminate her pregnancy, she suffered a mental breakdown and went to the Fullmoon Pack to cause trouble. Jonathan handed the evidence of her betrayal against the pack to the Royal Warriors, and she was sentenced to ten years in prison.”
The boy beside us added, “The Fullmoon Pack didn’t do much better. Back then, Alpha Jonathan risked everything to fight against the Newmoon Pack, but both sides ended up suffering heavy losses. The Fullmoon Pack is nothing more than an empty shell now.”
Rebecca lowered her voice.
“I also heard that Alpha Jonathan had his leg broken by people from the Newmoon Pack. He can only walk with a cane now.”
The moment she finished speaking, the paintbrush slipped from my hand.
The studio fell silent for a moment.
Rebecca carefully glanced at me, “Hazel, are you okay?”
I smiled and nodded. Then I picked up my brush and continued painting.
Hearing Jonathan and Victoria’s names now felt like listening to a story about strangers. There was no hatred. No satisfaction from seeing my enemies fall.
My heart no longer felt even the slightest ripple.
“Hazel.”
The door opened. Dylan walked in, with a few snowflakes resting on his shoulders.
He naturally took the brush from my hand, leaned down, and kissed my cheek, “Are you finished painting?”
“Not yet. There’s still a little left.”
“Finish it tomorrow. I took an early break from my hospital shift today. I’m taking you to see the Northern Lights.”
Dylan gently removed my paint-stained apron, carefully placed my coat over my shoulders, wrapped my scarf around me, and held my hand as we walked out of the studio.
I met Dylan half a year after arriving in the Lycan territory.
He was a psychological healer for wolves and the son of the Lycan King.
When I was at my lowest point, he stayed by my side, comforting me and helping me slowly heal.
On the day I finally severed my mate bond with Jonathan unilaterally, I discovered that Dylan was my second chance mate.
I willingly accepted this new mate bond.
The sunset covered the entire street in golden light.
I stepped on the soft snow piled along the roadside and smiled like a child.
Dylan held my hand helplessly, afraid that I would slip.
Along the way, we talked about funny things that happened at the hospital and shared my newest inspiration for painting.
The whole world seemed to belong only to the two of us.
Neither of us noticed the person who had been standing in the shadows at the corner of the street.
He wore an old, faded trench coat.
His right leg was stiff, supported by a cane. His body had become so thin that he looked almost unrecognizable.
The once confident and arrogant Alpha of the Fullmoon Pack was now as miserable as a homeless man.
He stood there motionless, watching Dylan naturally fix the hair that had been blown messy by the wind.
Watching me lean against Dylan’s shoulder without any hesitation and laugh happily.
The girl whose eyes once held only him had now given all her tenderness to someone else.
Jonathan’s throat moved.
A suppressed, hoarse sob escaped from him.
He had finally seen the bright smile he had dreamed of seeing every day.
But that smile was no longer meant for him.
When we turned the corner, Dylan suddenly stopped.
He glanced behind him. Then he pulled me tightly into his arms, “The wind is strong. Don’t catch a cold.”
From beginning to end, I never looked back.
Jonathan finally lost the last bit of strength he had left. He collapsed heavily onto the snow. The cane rolled away beside him.
He stared at the figures slowly disappearing into the distance.
His trembling hand reached out desperately, trying to hold onto something.
But all he caught was the freezing wind and the endless snow around him.
At that moment, he finally understood.
The girl who once loved him more than her own life was truly never coming back.
