My Boyfriend’s Childhood Sweetheart Cursed Me?It All Came Back Chapter 02

Ethan swerved hard, dodging the car—but we lost control. Slammed straight into the railing.

He tried to shift the impact to his side.

The car wouldn’t listen.

Crash.

The passenger side smashed into the barrier. Glass shattered. Shards sliced my face. Blood—immediate. Bruises all over.

I moved, and pain shot through me.

Ethan was shaking. He swore at the car for failing at the worst possible moment. Then he turned and saw my injuries—his hands trembled as he called for an ambulance.

“Stella, are you okay?! I’m so sorry—I don’t know why the car just—”

Inside my head, the system’s alarm was screaming.

[Ding! External threat has caused harm to host. Threat level: 50%!]

[Locating external source…]

The ambulance came fast. I was lifted onto a stretcher.

Ethan held my hand the whole way. Guilt was written all over his face. And beneath that—something else. Fear. Fear of something he couldn’t see.

Turned out, mostly scrapes and bruises. Mild concussion. They kept me overnight for observation.

Ethan stepped out to make a call. When he came back, his expression was strange.

“I had the car checked. The mechanic said nothing was wrong with it. So why did it lose control?”

Celine’s curse had been whispered in my ear. Ethan hadn’t heard it. Even if I told him now, he probably wouldn’t believe me.

I’d have to make him see it for himself.

Speak of the devil.

I hadn’t even been in the hospital bed for an hour when she showed up.

She looked at me—bandaged, bruised—and her eyes sparkled with amusement. But the second Ethan glanced over, her face flipped to concern.

“Oh my god, Stella! How did this happen? Are you okay?”

Ethan clenched his fists. “Thank god it’s not worse. I’d never forgive myself—how could I let this happen to her?”

Celine’s smile froze. Her eyes flicked to me—jealous.

Then she turned back to comfort him.

“It’s not your fault. No one could’ve seen that coming.”

She glanced at me sideways, lips curling.

“If anything, blame that weird force. It always goes after girls around Ethan.”

“Stella, there was this one girl who tried to pursue him—next day she got transferred to South Africa. Another confessed her feelings, and that same night she was in the ER with pneumonia. And then there was—”

“Enough!” Ethan’s voice cut through, cold.

Celine froze. Her lip jutted out, wounded.

“Ethan, I was just looking out for Stella. Since you two are getting married, she should know, right?”

She turned to me, expecting fear.

She’d done this before—with every girl who ever showed interest in Ethan. And I bet every single one of them ran after experiencing enough misfortune. Who wouldn’t be afraid of that kind of power?

Ethan’s face went pale. He stared at the ground.

He couldn’t meet my eyes.

The two years I’d been with him—they’d been peaceful. No accidents. No danger. Nothing.

He thought the curse had finally stopped.

He thought he could finally have something real.

He didn’t know Celine was overseas those two years.

I looked at him—paler than me, the actual patient—and felt a pang of pity.

“Ethan,” I said gently. “I’m not leaving.”

His head snapped up. His eyes were red. He was about to cry.

Celine’s fists tightened. Out of sight, her gaze turned to ice.
