My Husband’s Cooking Bites Me Chapter 09
Pinned to the floor by the police, Thomas finallyÂ
panicked.Â
He’d thought I wouldn’t be able to produce anyÂ
evidence.Â
At the police station, he confessed to everything.Â
He’d fallen in love with Chloe.Â
He wanted more than half of our assets if weÂ
divorced.Â
So he’d decided it would be easier to makeÂ
himself a widower.Â
When I learned the whole truth, I still couldn’t stopÂ
myself from crying.Â
I confronted him through the bars of the holdingÂ
cell.Â
“Why?”Â
“If you wanted a divorce, I would’ve agreed to splitÂ
everything fairly.”Â
“And Ryan? I would’ve co–parented with you.”Â
“You never even talked to me about it.”Â
“So why did you have to kill me?”Â
Thomas laughed.Â
“No. Half wasn’t enough.”Â
Greed was written all over his face.Â
“I’ve spent years taking care of you. I’ve bent over backward for your parents.”Â
“And you thought I’d just walk away with half?”Â
“If you died, I could have everything.”Â
“Then I’d find a way to deal with that old hag of aÂ
mother of yours, too.”Â
“After that, your family’s assets would all be mine.”Â
He looked straight at me.Â
“If I could have everything, why would I settle forÂ
half?”Â
I stared at him.Â
It felt like I was looking at a complete stranger.Â
The last question I wanted to ask died in myÂ
throat.Â
I got up and left the police station.Â
That same day, I took legal action against Thomas and Chloe.Â
With all the evidence I’d collected, they were bothÂ
convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to twenty years in prison.Â
When Mom found out what had happened, she clutched her chest in fury.Â
It took me nearly two weeks to calm her down.Â
Then Thomas’s parents showed up and begged me to let him go.Â
Mom yelled at them and cursed them out.Â
She even made Ryan cut all ties with Thomas.Â
Thomas’s parents got sick from the stress.Â
I later heard his father had ended up in the ICU.Â
But none of that had anything to do with meÂ
anymore.Â
I focused on getting better.Â
Thomas hadn’t been poisoning me for very long,Â
and I hadn’t eaten much of what he’d given me.Â
The toxins were soon cleared from my system.Â
Once everything was settled, I sold the house.Â
I planned to take Mom and Ryan to another cityÂ
and start over.Â
Before we left, I heard that Thomas’s father hadÂ
died.Â
I made sure someone told Thomas in prison.Â
I didn’t know how he’d react.Â
But I hoped that when that pain finally hit him, itÂ
hurt like hell.
