Forty-Nine Days of His Fake Amnesia Chapter 04
When the enforcers found Evan, he was at the city’s most expensive bridal boutique.
Mira said she couldn’t go live in just anything. She needed a white dress.
Evan had the driver go forty miles out of the way.
The clerk recognized him. “Alpha Evan, shall we alter it to Luna Naomi’s measurements as before?”
Mira’s smile flickered.
Evan’s eyes went narrow. “Wrong title.”
The clerk flinched. “Apologies, Miss Bellamy. This way.”
I followed them inside.
In the window sat that satin wedding gown.
The one I’d ordered three years ago.
Evan kept postponing the mating ceremony. Always busy.
When he finally came back, he just said, “Ceremony’s just formality. You don’t need my name.”
I never brought it up again.
Mira touched the hem. “Sweetie… if I wear this, will she be upset?”
Evan sat on the couch. Fingertips resting on the armrest.
“She doesn’t get to be upset.”
“But it’s her wedding dress.”
“She waited three years. Never wore it. Doesn’t matter.”
Mira smiled down.
“I want her to hold my train tonight. Consider it her official apology.”
Evan looked up.
Mira added quickly, “If it’s too much, forget it. I just want to close that chapter.”
Evan was quiet a moment. Then he voice-texted Caleb.
“Naomi comes to the shop tonight. If she doesn’t, cut the Greer Bloodline estate maintenance.”
I almost laughed.
The estate had been empty for years.
He didn’t know I’d put every cent of the repair fund into the mountain rescue team.
Because I was scared that if he got lost in the mountains with no signal, no one would find him.
Caleb didn’t reply.
Evan frowned. Called again.
No answer.
Mira poked her head out. “Sweetie… is Naomi still mad?”
Evan turned his phone over.
“She never stays mad for long.”
A clerk brought out a men’s ring. “Alpha Evan, Miss Bellamy would like some ring exchange photos.”
Mira bit her lip. “If it’s awkward, don’t. You’re still wearing your mate ring.”
Evan looked at his finger.
I designed that ring. My initials inside.
He stared for two seconds. Then slid it off.
It clinked onto the glass table.
“Put it away.”
The clerk hesitated.
Mira picked it up. Held it between her fingers.
“Will she cry when she finds out?”
Evan’s voice was flat. “She’ll be fine. A few words, and she’ll calm down.”
The shop door swung open.
Caleb stood there. White as death. Cold sweat on his temples.
He clutched a brown paper bag. His knuckles were bone-white.
“Alpha Evan.”
“Luna Naomi really had an accident.”
