Forty-Nine Days of His Fake Amnesia Chapter 05
Caleb stepped forward. His voice shook apart.
“Moonlight Medical. The enforcers. They’re waiting.”
Evan laughed.
“She sent you to act again?”
Caleb’s eyes went red. “It’s not an act.”
Mira stepped out in my wedding dress. The hem swept the floor.
“Sweetie. How do I look?”
Evan’s gaze landed on her. He waved Caleb off.
Caleb’s paper bag slipped. Red-stamped documents slid out.
He raised his head. Lips white.
“Alpha Evan. Luna Naomi has already..”
He finally got it out.
“Luna Naomi is dead.”
The shop went silent.
Evan didn’t move. Still looking at Mira.
A long moment passed.
Then he slowly turned his head.
“What?”
Caleb dropped to his knees. Tears hit the papers.
“Luna Naomi. Eight twenty-seven tonight. Resuscitation failed.”
Evan’s face drained.
“Caleb. You’re my Beta. I won’t let you help her with this joke.”
He bent down. Snatched the paper.
His eyes hit ‘Death Medical Certificate.’ His fingers locked.
Then he threw it on the floor.
“Fake.”
Mira stepped back. “Sweetie…”
Evan pulled out his phone. Called Moonlight Medical’s director.
Connected. His voice was terrifying.
“Evan Ward. Where is my Luna Naomi?”
A pause. A strange man’s voice came through.
“Mr. Ward, I’m the enforcer on this case. Come to the morgue. Now. Cooperate with the investigation.”
Evan’s throat bobbed.
“Put Naomi on.”
The enforcer’s voice went harder.
“The deceased cannot take your call.”
Evan stood there. All color gone.
Then he spun and ran out.
Mira chased in her dress. “Sweetie, I’m coming with you.”
Evan didn’t look back.
The black SUV tore to Moonlight Medical.
He pushed open the morgue door. His step faltered.
Cold air hit him.
The forensic healer stood by the table. Pulled back the sheet.
“Confirm this is your wife. Naomi.”
Evan walked over. Nailed in place.
My face was clean now. No blood. No comments. No cameras.
Just gray lips. Eyes that would never open.
Evan reached out. Stopped midair.
“Naomi. Stop this.”
His voice was raw. Barely there.
“Please. Stop.”
No one answered.
The healer handed him the report.
“Multiple sternum fractures. Ribs through the lung. Hemorrhagic shock with asphyxiation. Rescue delayed by over twenty minutes.”
Evan’s head snapped up.
“Delayed?”
“Victim still had faint vitals at discovery. On-site personnel blocked the real rescue. Stopped oxygen when her levels dropped.”
“If extraction began immediately, she had a chance.”
The healer looked at him. Ice.
“Mr. Ward. Your crew says this was a punishment stream. Authorized by you.”
Evan’s pupils blew wide.
“Impossible. The car was a stunt. The rebar was a prop.”
The healer flipped photos.
“This rebar came from a broken guardrail up the mountain. Not on your prop list. When it came through the windshield, the deceased was positioned over the passenger seat.”
Passenger seat.
Evan’s seat.
He stared at the photo. His body swayed.
“She was shielding me?”
Caleb’s voice cracked. “Scene records show Luna Naomi unbuckled you. Pushed you back into your seat. The airbag protected you. You barely had a scratch.”
Evan’s knees hit the floor.
The sound was heavy.
But I didn’t feel sorry anymore.
He knelt by the table. Finally reached for my fingers.
Cold.
He jerked back like he’d been burned. Then grabbed them again. Crazy.
“Naomi. I didn’t know. I swear. I didn’t know.”
I floated behind him. Quiet.
“I didn’t know.” Such a useless excuse.
It couldn’t buy back those twenty minutes.
The healer placed an evidence bag on the table.
Inside was the crushed moon-signal whistle.
“There’s uncut crystal footage. The last eleven minutes.”
