He Left Me for My Best Friend Chapter 01

He Left Me for My Best Friend Chapter 01

The first stop of my road trip with Evan,

I’d gotten thirsty and stopped at a highway rest stop to buy a drink.

But when I came back,

I found that Evan had already driven away.

I called him ten times.

Every single call was rejected.

An hour later, he finally answered.

But the voice that came through the phone belonged to my best friend.

“Sorry, Tessa.”

“Evan just turned around to pick me up.”

“We’re getting back on the highway now.”

“He’ll be back at your highway rest stop within an hour.”

I hung up.

Then I noticed the Instagram post Evan had uploaded before we left had suddenly gained a lot more comments.

The comments were flooded with messages like:

“OMG!”

“So sweet!”

But among all those comments,

there was one that stood out.

It was from my best friend, Chloe.

She sent a crying emoji and wrote:

【Oh no! How could you go without me?】

Evan replied:

【Okay, okay. Come downstairs. I’ll come get you.】

I suddenly wanted to laugh.

Before this trip,

Evan was too lazy to even buy me an extra bottle of water.

After work,

he was too lazy to drive me home.

Because of how lazy he was,

I spent a year and a half persuading him before he finally agreed to take this pre-marriage road trip with me.

He even took the initiative to make the entire trip plan.

Evan’s change had kept me awake with excitement for several nights.

But now I realized…

The change I had spent so much time hoping for,

someone else had gotten from him effortlessly.

By the time the crowd at the highway rest stop had changed for the third time,

Evan’s car finally arrived.

Chloe stepped out, holding the bubble tea she always drank.

She had a bright smile on her face.

“My princess Tessa!”

“I knew you’d been waiting so long, so I specially bought you bubble tea!”

She took out a cup, put a straw in it, and pushed it toward my lips.

I took a sip without thinking.

The moment I tasted mango,

I immediately turned away and started coughing.

The itch in my throat spread quickly.

I grabbed the wall and kept coughing until tears filled my eyes.

Chloe gasped and turned around to complain.

“Evan, what the hell are you doing?!”

“I told you to buy her a drink!”

“Why did you get one with mango?”

“Tessa has a mango allergy!”

Evan immediately defended himself.

“Come on, I had no idea what flavor to get.”

“So I just bought two Mango Coconut Drinks.”

“Seriously? Are you kidding me?!”

“I told you to get Tessa’s favorite flavor.”

“Did you see me drinking Mango Coconut Drink once and just assume that was the only thing on the menu?”

I wiped away the tears from the corners of my eyes.

Then I silently accepted the water Evan handed me.

Just like all those times before,

I heard him say:

“If it were Tessa, I’d just buy her a bottle of water.”

“Unlike you, always making me remember all these little things.”

“It’s such a hassle.”

But no matter how troublesome it was,

He still remember it.

That thought quietly surfaced in my mind.

Actually,

I loved bubble tea too.

And I loved asking Evan to buy it for me.

But he was always too lazy.

Too lazy to check the menu.

Too lazy to see if any ingredients would trigger my allergy.

Anything I told him,

he forgot almost immediately.

Back then,

Evan was holding his phone.

He had just started another ranked game.

He didn’t even look up.

“Water is fine.”

“Who would remember that?”

I had ordered the exact same bubble tea in front of him countless times.

But somehow,

it still couldn’t compare to two years ago.

After Chloe and I finished watching a movie,

Evan came to pick us up.

He only glanced at her once.

Yet somehow,

he remembered all her little habits.

Evan and Chloe walked ahead.

I stayed a few steps behind, searching my bag for my allergy medication.

When I looked up again,

Chloe was already sitting in the passenger seat.

I stood beside the car and met her eyes.

Chloe slapped her forehead.

“OMG, I forgot again!”

“Tessa, come here. You should sit in the passenger seat.”

“No need.”

“No need.”

Evan and I said it at the same time.
