After Three Years as a Deranged Alpha’s Sedative, I Faked My Death Chapter 09

After Three Years as a Deranged Alpha’s Sedative, I Faked My Death Chapter 09

I made myself even clearer.

We had a perfectly good arrangement until

Selena came back, but you no longer needed me,

and I had already earned enough to retire.”

I only faked my death because I was afraid you

would lose control again and come looking for me,

which might have made your mother take the

money back.”

I looked directly at him and told him the truth.

Adrian, I don’t hate you. Why would an employee

hate a client who always paid on time?”

My voice turned colder.

I simply do not care about you at all.”

Adrian’s legs suddenly gave out.

He stumbled backward before collapsing onto his

knees amid the shattered glass.

Sharp fragments pierced his knees, and blood quickly soaked through his dress pants, but he seemed unable to feel the pain.

He only stared at me.

For the past three years, the one belief that had kept him alive was that I had loved him.

He had convinced himself that I chose death

because I loved him too deeply to survive his betrayal.

Clinging to that twisted version of love, he had

tortured himself with the same regret every single

day.

He believed there had been a mate bond between

us, one his cruelty had destroyed.

But there had never been a mate mark or a soul

bond between us.

There had only been an employment contract and

a ledger recording every payment I had received.

Nothat’s not true”

Adrian covered his face, and a muffled, desperate

sob tore from his throat.

You said you’d do anything as long as I was

okayYou lied to me! Erin, you lied to me!”

He suddenly raised his head and crawled toward me like a madman, reaching out with a

bloodcovered hand to seize my ankle.

You’re still angry with me, aren’t you? I know I was wrong. I know that now. I ruined Selena! I avenged you!”

His words had lost all logic, as though saying them aloud could preserve the last shred of hope he had left.

After you died, I locked her inside that private lounge, had people pour red wine over her head, and forced her to wear the same white dress you wore that night.”

His voice grew more frantic.

I smashed countless glasses and made her kneel on the floor to pick up every shard, and her hands were ruined, and she lost her mind.”

His eyes burned with desperate conviction.

I didn’t spare a single person who ever humiliated you, and I didn’t even spare myself!”

He tore open his black shirt.

Crisscrossing scars covered his chest.

I can’t sleep at night. Every time I close my eyes, I

see you covered in blood. I have to hurt myself just

to make sure I’m still alive.”

He crawled to my feet and pressed his forehead against my slipper as his tears mixed with blood

and stained the top of my foot.

Erin, I’ve repaid everything I owed you. Please

don’t send me away. Let me be your dog. I’ll be

obedient.
