After Three Years as a Deranged Alpha’s Sedative, I Faked My Death Chapter 12
Mrs. Black looked at me as though my concern forÂ
money alone made her sick.Â
She made no effort to hide her disgust.Â
“Adrian never saw you for what you truly are, and IÂ
can’t believe he would ever fall for a woman who cares about nothing but money.”Â
She turned toward the bodyguards.Â
“Go around back and bring him out.”Â
The men had barely taken a few steps when the storage room door was kicked open from theÂ
inside.Â
Everyone recoiled in alarm.Â
Adrian gripped the doorframe and slowly madeÂ
his way out.Â
His black shirt had dried overnight, wrinkled andÂ
clinging to his body, with fish scales stuck all overÂ
- it.Â
With his heightened sense of smell, theÂ
overpowering seafood stench made his face.Â
tighten in visible discomfort.Â
The wound on his neck had scabbed over, and hisÂ
dress pants were torn at the knees.Â
Although his injuries had begun to heal, they stillÂ
looked severe.Â
Fish scales, grime, and dried blood covered hisÂ
body, leaving no trace of the dignity expected ofÂ
an Alpha heir.Â
“Adrian!”Â
Mrs. Black’s eyes instantly reddened when sheÂ
saw the condition her son was in.Â
She hurried toward him in her heels and reachedÂ
out to support him.Â
“How did you end up like this? How dare thatÂ
woman lock you in a storage room! Come homeÂ
with me. I’m taking you to the hospital.”Â
“Don’t touch me!”Â
Adrian knocked her hand away and stared straightÂ
at me.Â
There was no anger in his scarlet eyes.Â
There was only a disturbing mixture of obsessionÂ
and despair.Â
He had clearly heard the entire conversationÂ
between Mrs. Black and me.Â
He had heard me agree to hand him over without hesitation in exchange for five million dollars.Â
Dragging his injured leg, he slowly walked towardÂ
- me.Â
“Five million.”Â
His voice was so hoarse it was barely audible.Â
“Erin, am I only worth five million dollars to you?”Â
I nodded without hesitation.Â
“That’s already a generous price. In your current condition, you’d be difficult to sell even on theÂ
secondhand market.”Â
Adrian suddenly laughed.Â
The smile on his face was stiff and filled withÂ
pain.Â
Then he turned toward Mrs. Black, who wasÂ
staring at him in shock.Â
“Mother.”Â
She froze.Â
For the past three years, he had almost neverÂ
addressed her so calmly.Â
“Go home.”Â
His voice was frighteningly composed.Â
“I’m not leaving. Have you lost your mind?” Mrs.Â
Black shrieked.Â
“She sold you for five million dollars! She doesn’t love you. All she wants is the Black family’sÂ
money!”Â
“I know.”Â
Adrian cut her off and turned back to me as theÂ
obsessive look returned to his eyes.Â
“I know she loves money, so I’ll buy myself back.”Â
He pulled a stack of water–warped documentsÂ
from his trouser pocket and spread them acrossÂ
the stone table with trembling hands.Â
They were equity transfer agreements and assetÂ
gift agreements.Â
“Erin.”Â
He pointed at the papers.Â
“These include a forty–five percent controlling stake in Black Group, along with every property IÂ
own in New York, Washington, D.C., and overseas.”Â
His fingers trembled over the pages.Â
“My trust funds, private jets, and yachts areÂ
included as well.”Â
He looked at me without blinking.Â
“It also includes all the personal assets I own asÂ
the future Alpha, but none of the communalÂ
property belonging to the pack.”Â
His voice dropped to a rasp.Â
“Altogether, they’re worth approximately fiftyÂ
billion dollars.”Â
He pushed the documents toward me.Â
“I signed everything before I came to find you, soÂ
the moment you add your signature, all of itÂ
becomes yours.”Â
No one in the courtyard spoke.Â
Mrs. Black’s eyes widened in disbelief.Â
She could not believe he was truly willing to doÂ
this.Â
“Adrian, do you understand what you’re doing?Â
Those assets were built by generations of theÂ
Black family!”Â
She lunged forward and tried to seize theÂ
documents.Â
Adrian snapped his head toward her and releasedÂ
a burst of Alpha pressure, stopping her in herÂ
tracks.Â
“Get out!”Â
Every bodyguard immediately lowered his head,Â
and not one of them dared to step forward.Â
“What do the Black family’s assets have to do withÂ
me? I’m willing to give up my life, so why would I care about a pile of paper?”Â
He shielded the documents and looked at meÂ
again, his eyes filled with nothing but desperate pleading.Â
“Erin. Fifty billion dollars. Let me stay by your side. I don’t need a title, and I don’t need you to love me.”Â
His voice shook.Â
“I can be your security guard, your cleaner, or your dog. Whatever you tell me to do, I’ll do it. Just don’tÂ
send me away.Â
He dropped to his knees again and gripped theÂ
edge of the table with both hands until hisÂ
knuckles turned white.Â
“Please take me in.”
