He Chose His Adopted Sister, So I Left the Mafia Chapter 08

Adrian was in the conference room next door.

Only one wall separated us, and he heard the

commotion.

Selena sat beside him and said softly, Don’t

worry. I only told them to scare her a little. Once

she agrees to sign, they’ll send her back to her

room.”

Adrian gave a quiet hum.

She’s too stubborn. She thinks being capable

means she doesn’t have to follow Family rules.”

Selena leaned a little closer.

Adrian, are you really going to break up with her?”

Yes.”

Then after that, will you”

Before she could finish, shouting erupted in the

hallway.

Someone fell!”

It’s Dr. Carter!”

Adrian shot to his feet, knocking his chair over.

He rushed into the isolation room.

The window was wide open.

All that remained on the floor was an overturned

wheelchair and streaks of blood.

He ran to the window, but there was no one below.

Only a pool of bright red blood.

Where is she?”

No one dared answer.

Adrian spun around and punched the lead

enforcer across the face.

What the hell did I tell you to do?”

Blood ran from the corner of the man’s mouth, and

his voice shook.

Just make her sign. That was all. She refused, so

we shoved her around a little, and then she

crashed into the window and broke it open

herself”

Shut up!”

For the first time, real panic appeared in Adrian’s

eyes.

Within minutes, every hospital security feed had

been pulled up.

The footage showed me falling onto the secondfloor awning. A man wearing a cap and a face mask rushed out through the back entrance, lifted my bloodcovered body into his arms, and carried me into a black SUV.

The license plate had been temporarily covered.

Adrian stared at the screen without looking away.

Rewind it.”

The footage played again.

Then again.

And again.

His hands slowly curled into fists.

Selena stood beside him.

Could it be someone she knew before? Wasn’t

she always in contact with people from out of

town?”

Adrian gave her a cold look.

Shut up.”

Then he mobilized every Moretti resource

available to him. They checked airports, private

hospitals, docks, and interstate highways.

They found nothing.

Three days later, the nurse manager walked into

Adrian’s office with visible injuries and threw a

stack of documents onto his desk.

You need to see these.”

The first page was Selena’s original lab report.

The second was the system record showing the

altered timestamps.

The third was security footage from the Drake

Hotel that night.

The fourth was my ER report and prescription for

postexposure medication.

The fifth was the silver family crest Selena had

taken from me.

The nurse manager stared at him.

You loved saying Erin only got where she was because of you. But when she got into medical school, she hadn’t even met you. When she earned her specialist certification, she didn’t use a single Moretti connection. So tell me, Adrian. Who was really the one relying on connections? Do you still

not understand?”

Adrian stood there without a word.
