HURRICANE! She Begged My Brother to Save Her—This Time, I Said No Chapter 09
“Damage the company’s reputation?”
I scoffed.
“When Chloe threatened to jump and dozens of
employees called Tyler a rapist, did you worry
about the company’s reputation then?”
“But the moment I called the police and exposed
the truth, my handling of the situation became the
problem?”
“That’s right.”
I looked directly at the director.
“You were the one who recommended Chloe to the
company, weren’t you?”
Chairman Whitmore turned a piercing look on him.
“Natalie handled this properly.”
“Chloe Sullivan is immediately removed from the
executive candidate list.”
“Marcus Coleman will remain suspended while
Whitmore Global and the police conduct a joint
investigation.”
“Every employee who spread the accusation or
pressured the Bennett family to settle privately will
be suspended immediately and investigated.”
The coworkers who had followed us into the
conference room went pale.
One of them started crying immediately.
Footsteps approached outside the conference
room.
Whitmore Global’s legal team entered with a stack.
of files.
“Ms. Bennett, these are the messages recovered
from Chloe Sullivan’s company computer.”
“She and Mr. Coleman planned from the beginning
to stir up public outrage online.”
I accepted the file.
The first page was a printed screenshot of their
conversation.
**Marcus:** [Tyler is the Bennett family’s only
son.)
**Marcus:** [Once you threaten to jump, the Bennett family will pay.]
**Chloe:** [What about the promotion?]
**Marcus:** [Once Natalie is pushed out, the
position will be yours.]
Chairman Whitmore ordered Evelyn to preserve
the entire Slack conversation.
The legal team immediately opened an internal
case file.
Every message.
Every timestamp.
Every screenshot.
Every video recorded on the rooftop.
Everything was archived and preserved as
evidence.
Someone knocked on the conference room door.
The police returned.
“Ms. Bennett.”
“Chloe confessed.”
“She admitted that no one assaulted her last
night.”
“She also admitted that she went to Harbor Grand
Hotel with Marcus.”
“As for the torn underwear…”
“She cut it up herself.”
The tension inside me finally eased.
The truth was finally out.
As my family and I left, we passed the coworkers gathered outside the conference room.
The first man who had called Tyler a rapist spoke up.
“Mr. Bennett…”
“I’m sorry.”
Tyler stopped and looked back at him.
“You’re not sorry.”
“You’re apologizing because you finally realized
you accused the wrong man…”
“And now you’re scared our family will hold you
accountable.”
The man went pale.
Tyler turned away without another word.
We left the conference room together.
Several police cruisers were parked outside, their
lights flashing.
As Chloe was being escorted toward one of them,
she saw me and began struggling in the officers‘
grip.
“Natalie!”
“I was wrong!”
“I know I was wrong!“,
“Marcus manipulated me!”
I stopped.
“I’ll apologize!”
“I’ll apologize to your brother!”
“Please… ask them to let me go!”
I looked at her calmly.
“If apologies solved everything…”
“We wouldn’t need the police.”
“I don’t want your apology.”
“I want you to face the consequences.”
The officers placed her in the back seat.
Even after the door closed, she kept pounding on
the window.
Whitmore Global acted immediately.
That afternoon, the company issued Marcus
Coleman’s suspension notice in the
company–wide Slack channel.
**Effective immediately, Marcus Coleman was
suspended for serious violations of the company’s
Code of Conduct.**
**He was relieved of all duties pending the
outcome of the investigation.**
That was only the beginning.
The next morning, the police released an official
statement.
Chloe Sullivan had been taken into custody for
making a false criminal accusation and attempted extortion.
Marcus Coleman was under investigation as a co–conspirator in the attempted extortion.
I sat in my office as the company’s legal counsel placed another stack of documents on my desk.
“Ms. Bennett.”
“This is the first batch of legal demand letters.”
“Nineteen employees helped spread the false accusation.”
“Five of them shared Tyler’s photo in private group chats.”
“Two others uploaded footage from the rooftop to TikTok.”
