I Forced Him Into Marriage For Six Years, Only To Witness Him Sacrifice His Life For Me Chapter 04

Linus blinked, then walked over and grabbed my wrist.

“You’re not mad?”

“What’s there to be mad about?”

I pulled my hand back, my tone flat.

“You’re the only person she knows in this city. It makes sense for you to help her out.”

That line sounded so familiar.

In my past life, he used to say it to me all the time.

“Linette, Catherine only knows me around here. It makes sense for me to help her out.”

So when I stepped out from behind the curtain in my wedding dress, he didn’t even look at me.

Just said Catherine had a fever and he needed to go take care of her.

That night, I got a photo of the two of them tangled up in bed together.

I fell apart. Crawled into the bathtub and slit my wrist.

The water turned red. I ended up in the ER again.

I came back to the present. Linus opened his mouth to say something, but Catherine was already looping her arm through his and pulling him toward the door.

“Come on, the movers are going to be there any minute.”

He glanced back at me, then nodded.

The door clicked shut.

The living room went completely silent.

I went back to the bedroom and started packing.

There wasn’t much. One suitcase held everything.

Just like the weight I’d carried in Linus’s life for six years.

Turns out, it was only ever enough to fill a single bag.

That evening, my phone lit up.

Catherine had sent a photo.

Linus sat on the couch, shirtless, water still dripping from his shoulders.

[Linette, Linus helped me move things all afternoon and he’s tired now, so I let him take a shower~]

[His body’s not bad, you know. He has great stamina too, and I’ve tested it myself~]

Every line dripped with provocation. Then she threw out a little game.

[If I asked him to stay here, would he listen to me and keep me company, or would he go home to you?]

In my past life, I would’ve lost my mind over photos like this.

I’d have blown up his phone, threatened to kill myself to force him back.

But this time, I typed a few casual words and hit send.

[If you want him to stay, then keep him there.]

[It’s getting late. I’m going to sleep.]

I was about to turn off the light when the door opened.

Linus walked in, still carrying the chill from outside.

I blinked.

“Why are you back?”

“You were just going to leave me there?”

His face was dark, something unreadable flickering in his eyes.

“You helped her move until this late. Spending the night would’ve been normal.”

His brow furrowed instantly.

“Linette, you weren’t like this before.”

“Before, you’d call. You’d cry. You’d scream. You’d threaten your own life to make me come back.”

“Now you don’t even ask?”

I looked up at him, confused, almost amused.

“Linus, when I made a scene, you said I was exhausting. Now that I’m not doing it, you’re not used to it. What do you actually want?”

His lips parted, but no answer came. He looked away.

“I overreacted. Forget it.”

He came over and put an arm around my shoulder, his voice softening.

“By the way, did you pick a wedding theme yet?”

“I found a few options. There’s a beach series you’d like, and a garden one too.”

“Want me to take you to check them out tomorrow?”

I wanted to tell him that I meant it. The wedding was off.

But I thought back to my past life. Every little thing, from the invitation design to the venue, I’d done it all alone.

And I couldn’t let go of the feeling of someone being there with me, being part of it.

Even if it was just to fulfill the dream my past self never made it possible.

So I nodded. “Okay.”

The next morning, he made my favorite breakfast.

He made omelette without cheese, and the milk was at the perfect temperature.

I sat at the table, watching him move around the kitchen in an apron.

For a moment, I almost wished time would stop right there.
