I Spiked His Drink, He Drank It Anyway Chapter 05

Once inside, Stellan grabbed a cart and trailed behind me while I tossed things in.

Whenever I couldn’t decide between two items, I’d hold them up.
“Which one?”

His answer was always the same, “Both.”

I laughed. “Is there anything you want to buy?”

“Not really.”

His eyes drifted toward the checkout lanes.

Once we were done, we headed to the checkout.

His gaze landed on the display beside the register.

Right in front of me, he reached over, picked up a box of condoms, and dropped it into the cart.

I glanced at it.

The tips of my ears instantly turned hot.

Wait, was this the real reason he’d dragged me grocery shopping?

The comments appeared immediately.

[Here she goes again, making it all about herself.]

[Please. Even if he’s buying condoms, they’re for the female lead.]

[Think about it. They’ve been married for a year, and he never kept any at home.]

[The female lead comes back, and suddenly he can’t wait to buy them.]

[Isn’t it obvious who he plans to use them with?]

I didn’t get it.

If he meant to use them with Iris, wouldn’t he at least hide it from me?

The comments answered before I could finish the thought.

[Buying them right in front of her is the fun part.]

[Still making excuses for him. She’s so far gone.]

[Just please don’t let her try anything tonight. I’m begging.]

That night, while Stellan was taking a shower, I went to the dance studio like always.

I’d just finished my third run-through when the studio door quietly opened.

Stellan walked in wearing his robe and sat down on the couch, watching me dance.

Through the mirror, I caught his gaze fixed on me.

Those eyes usually so cool and distant, but now burned with something I’d never seen before.

Something fierce. Possessive. It felt foreign.

The comments kept rolling.

[He’s looking at Tamsin, but in his head, that’s Iris dancing.]

When I finished the third rehearsal, I stopped to catch my breath.

Stellan stood, picked up a bottle of water, and handed it to me.

“You’ve done enough. Time to get some sleep.”

As I reached for the bottle, our fingertips brushed.

I jerked my hand back as if I’d been shocked and quickly looked away.

“I’ve still got one section that isn’t right. Let me run through it a couple more times.”

“You go on to bed.”

He pulled out a tissue and stepped closer, dabbing the sweat from my forehead.

“Are you avoiding me?”

“No.” I shook my head.

“We’ve got a performance next week—a big one. I just want to get it right.”

He nodded. “Then I’ll stay with you.”

“No need.”

I walked over and gently pushed him toward the door.

“You’ll distract me.”

As he stepped outside, something slipped from the pocket of his robe. He didn’t notice.

After I closed the studio door, I looked down.

It was what he’d bought at the grocery store.

For a second, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.

I picked it up, double-checked the label.

Nope. No mistake.

The comments instantly exploded.

[He actually brought condoms to see Tamsin?]

[Don’t tell me he was angling for a dance studio hookup.]

[Even if he was, he would’ve been imagining Iris.]

[But he knew perfectly well the woman in the studio was Tamsin.]

[Okay, I’m officially confused. Is the male lead actually catching feelings for the side character?]

[Feelings? Please. As if.]

[Maybe he just wanted to use the side character for practice.]

[You know, since word is, guys are pretty useless their first time.]

[LMAO. And to think she used to believe that if she just slept with him, she’d be Mrs. Hollister for life.]

[Even if she’d pulled it off, she’d just have been a practice run.]

The box felt like it was burning a hole in my palm. I tossed it straight into the trash.
