Is This A Joke? My Whole Pack Betrayed Me On The Day I Became Luna Chapter 02

A sudden clap of thunder shook the airport.

Rain poured down instantly.

Damon pulled the SUV up to the entrance. My parents immediately got into the back seat.

Vesper lifted her skirt and naturally slid into the passenger seat.

I was about to open the rear door when she stopped me.

“Wait.”

She took the gown from my arms and carefully laid it across the only empty space in the back seat.

“The gown can’t be wrinkled. How will you wear it next week?”

I looked at the gown taking up the entire seat.

“I can hold it.”

Vesper gave me a troubled look.

“But you’re all sweaty. What if you dirty the wedding dress?”

Damon was silent for a few seconds before making the decision for me.

“Take a cab home.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

“It’s typhoon season. There are no cabs.”

He frowned.

“Offer more money. Someone will take the fare.”

“Your parents are getting older. They can’t stay out here in the rain. Vesper’s shoes are lambskin—thirteen hundred dollars a pair. They’ll be ruined if they get wet.”

“The gown needs to be worn next week. It can’t go in the trunk.”

After saying that, he seemed to think it was a perfectly reasonable arrangement.

“Your wolf is strong. A little rain won’t hurt you.”

I smiled bitterly.

In my fated mate’s heart, I was worth less than a gown and less than Vesper’s shoes.

My mother urged from the SUV.

“Damon, let’s go.”

“Vesper said she was cold earlier. Don’t let her get sick.”

The door closed in my face.

Damon rolled down the window one last time.

“Text me when you get home.”

The SUV disappeared into the rain.

I stood outside the airport. The ride-hailing app said ten minutes.

Then thirty.

One driver after another cancelled.

Before long, I was completely soaked.

The freezing wind cut through me, making me shiver violently.

Finally, an hour later, a taxi pulled up in front of me.

The driver turned up the heat and handed me a box of tissues.

“Here, dry yourself off.”

“The typhoon’s this bad—why were you standing outside the airport alone? Didn’t anyone come to pick you up?”

I looked down and didn’t answer.

The driver glanced at me in the rearview mirror and didn’t press further.

He just said softly, “Don’t be sad. The typhoon will pass.”

“Once the wind stops, everything will be fine.”

I lowered my gaze and opened my email.

Half a month ago, the Gray Claw Pack’s company had invited me to work at their overseas territory.

Back then, I couldn’t bear to leave Damon.

Or the Mate Ceremony I’d spent months preparing.

I’d been putting off my reply.

Now, I hit send on the confirmation email.

Then I looked at the one-way ticket I’d rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon and murmured softly.

“Yeah.”

Once this typhoon passed, flights would resume.

And I would fly thousands of miles away.

To start a new life with nothing to do with Damon Blackthorn.

Damon’s Mate Ceremony next week would forever lack a Luna.
