Marriage Lottery: Heaven Sign Or Hell Ticket Chapter 03

Early the next morning, I was summoned to the family chapel.

Elias stood there with an air of icy detachment.

“From today on, the first and fifteenth of every month, you will stay here for three hours and pray for her.”

I immediately asked. “Mr. Whitmore, what’s your true love’s name? What if I pray for the wrong person?”

“You should at least give me a name. A photo would be even better. It helps me pray with sincerity.”

Elias’s gaze turned cold instantly. “Don’t ask what you shouldn’t. You are not worthy of her name.”

I let out a small sound of acknowledgment, laughing inwardly.

So I was praying blessings for an anonymous user.

Fine. The customer was always right.

I began praying with practiced ease.

Elias paused behind me, staring at the side of my face as I prayed, a flicker of something almost like bewilderment crossing his expression.

Then he left, slamming the door.

Three hours later, my throat was parched and dry from all the praying.

Just as I stepped outside, Vivian was already waiting at the door.

“Oh my, Aria! Look how pale you are. Did Elias bully you?”

She took my hand, her face the picture of a caring best friend, but her eyes brimmed with barelyhidden schadenfreude.

“I heard you were forced to pray here early this morning. Being an heir’s wife is so hard. I feel really terrible for you.”

I leaned all my weight onto her. A free human cushion shouldn’t be wasted.

“Vivian, what brings you here? I’m fine……”

I lifted my gaze, letting it fall deliberately on the faint red mark peeking out from her collar.

“How are things with Damian? Based on your last night’s post, you two seemed very… passionate.”

Vivian’s face froze for a moment.

Then she pushed me away and spun in a circle in front of me.

“That stupid praying of yours is just a disguised punishment. Everyone in Northcrest knows Elias has a woman he could never forget.”

“He makes you pray so you understand your place and to humiliate you. Unlike Damian, he loves me so much and gave me this diamond necklace from his ancestor.”

I glanced at the necklace.

Poor quality, sloppy cut, clearly one of the leftover trinkets Damian used to brush off his flings.

Still, I played along and looked envious.

Seeing that Elias hadn’t appeared until now, Vivian assumed I was just as unloved as she had been in the last life. She stopped pretending altogether.

“Aria, Elias’s true love has a terminal illness. She’s hidden in the third-floor study no one is allowed to enter.”

“You think you’re just praying? You’re keeping his true love’s life with your own spirit.”

“Once she wakes up, you’ll have no place left here!”

She let out a triumphant laugh and sashayed away.

Watching her disappear, I dropped my smile.

Terminal illness? Life-extending prayers?

Interesting.

I headed back to my room.

Money, free time, and a husband who didn’t bother me at all—every day like this was a profit.

As for the secret on the third floor, I would avoid it at all costs.

Rumor said anyone who entered by accident was silenced by Elias the very same day.
