Missing for Twenty Years, I Found My Mafia Father in a Nightclub Chapter 04

The person who stopped me was not Vincent.

It was Bianca.

Using the same commanding tone she used with her bodyguards, she said, I’m not finished with

you. Who gave you permission to leave?”

I turned around and found her staring at me with

open mockery.

She was clearly delighted to have found another

excuse to humiliate me.

Come stand in front of me.”

I walked over without resisting.

Everyone in that private lounge had ties to the

Moretti Family, while I had no Family backing and

was nothing more than a nightclub hostess.

No matter what I did, they would find some way to

excuse whatever Bianca did to me.

The men resumed their discussion about the

docks, casinos, and protection money while

Bianca continued staring at me.

I’ve heard women like you will do anything when

you’re desperate for money.”

She took a stack of cash from her purse and slowly placed it on the coffee table.

Get on your knees, kiss my shoe, and admit you’re

not worthy of going near the Moretti Family. Then the money is yours.”

The people in the room glanced at me, then returned to their conversations as though my humiliation were perfectly ordinary.

No one tried to stop her.

To them, the humiliation of a powerless woman without Family protection was not worth a second thought.

What’s wrong? Still trying to hold on to your dignity?”

Bianca’s voice grew even more scornful.

You’re just a nightclub hostess. Don’t pretend getting on your knees for customers is new to you. Stop acting like you’re somehow too good for this money.”

I did not move.

Suddenly, one of the bodyguards kicked the backs

of my knees from behind.

I crashed onto the marble floor, pain exploding

through my knees until my vision blurred, but I

refused to make a sound.

Bianca laughed softly, held the stack of cash

above me, and let the bills fall.

They scattered around my body.

Several landed on the back of my hand, while

another drifted down in front of my face.

In their eyes, my dignity was worth less than the money lying on the floor.

That’s more like it. A woman like you, with no

Family name and no standing, should spend her

entire life on her knees serving real members of

the Family.”

You actually thought you could become the Don’s

daughter? You weren’t born into a powerful Family,

and nothing you do will ever change that.”

Bianca!”

Vincent finally stopped her with a sharp

command.

He used the same cold, absolute voice he used

when giving orders to his men, and the entire room.

fell silent.

I watched him approach and crouch in front of

  1. me.

He picked up the scattered bills one by one, straightened them, and placed them back inside.

the envelope.

Get up, young lady.”

His voice held a polite, distant sympathy that hurt

worse than Bianca’s contempt.

I raised my head and looked at him.

We were so close that I could clearly see the old scar at his right temple and the strands of gray in

his hair.

He held the envelope out to me.

There’s enough money here for you to leave this nightclub. It isn’t charity. Consider it compensation

for Bianca’s disrespect tonight.”

He paused and lowered his voice.

Find yourself a respectable job. You’re still young. You shouldn’t degrade yourself just to force your

way into a world that was never yours.”

I tried to speak, but no sound came out.

His gaze fell on the scar on my right arm, and he

sighed.

You prepared thoroughly. You even found out that my daughter had a burn scar on her arm. Too many people have pretended to be her over the years. So many that I don’t dare believe in

coincidences anymore.”

He rose and put an arm around Bianca, preparing

to leave.

One of the capos, eager to curry favor with the

Moretti Family, understood the look Bianca gave

him and immediately ordered his bodyguards to

force me back onto the floor.

Why aren’t you thanking the Don and Miss.

Moretti? For someone of your status, the fact that

the Don is willing to compensate you is already far

more than you deserve.”

A bodyguard seized the back of my neck and tried

to force me to kiss the Moretti signet ring.

As I struggled, my forehead struck the cold marble

floor again and again.

Blood spilled down my face and quickly blurred. my vision.

I watched Vincent walk toward the door of the

private lounge.

Once he walked through that door, he would

become just another stranger on the streets of New York.

After that, I might lose any chance of ever being his daughter again.

As my consciousness began to fade, I softly hummed a melody.

It was a lullaby my father had composed for me

when I was little.

He had told me that we were the only two people

in the world who knew it.

For twenty years, I had repeated that melody every

day because I was terrified I might forget it.

If even I forgot the song, my father would lose the

final clue that could help him recognize me.

Sleep now, my little star. Daddy is right here. Even

when morning comes, I won’t go away…”

Vincent had almost reached the door when he

spun around, his face frozen in shock.

How do you know that song?
