My Cat Said I Was Cheated On Chapter 02
The next day, I left home half an hour earlier than usual.
The moment I parked, I spotted two familiar figures.
Adrian lowered his head and gently kissed Chloe on the forehead.
“Tired from last night?”
Chloe gave a playful huff.
“Please.”
“Don’t you wear me out every night?”
“You’re such a wolf.”
“Always trying to eat me alive.”
She giggled.
My hands curled into fists.
So they’d been sneaking around together every night.
“Oh, right.”
Chloe glanced at him.
“You sure it’s okay to trick Serena into quitting?”
“Everyone’s selfish.”
“You’ve gotta look out for yourself.”
Adrian smiled.
“Besides, Serena’s tough.”
“She’ll find another job.”
“She cares too much about us.”
“She won’t blame you.”
Then he added casually,
“Once we’re married, I’ll still use her money to take care of you.”
This was the man who’d promised to love me forever.
He was more vicious than any snake.
Thank God Ginger’s inner voice had warned me.
I didn’t storm over and confront them.
Instead, I quietly recorded a video, stayed in the parking lot for another ten minutes, then went upstairs.
“Serena!”
“Come on.”
“Let’s go hand in our resignations.”
Chloe was already waiting outside my office.
Smiling brightly, she grabbed my arm and pulled me toward the CEO’s office.
Fine.
I’d play along until the end.
When we reached the door, Chloe suddenly slapped a hand to her forehead.
“Oh my God, Serena!”
“I think I forgot my resignation letter.”
“You go in first.”
“I’ll go find mine.”
“Sure.”
I nodded and walked into the CEO’s office.
Behind me, I clearly heard Chloe breathe a sigh of relief.
She thought her little scheme had worked.
Mr. Bennett warmly invited me to sit down.
“I heard you’re planning to resign.”
“Don’t tell me you’re here to hand in your resignation.”
So Chloe had already spread the word that I was leaving.
She’d been preparing to take my place.
“Of course not.”
I shook my head and handed him a folder.
Inside wasn’t my resignation letter.
It was a new-product marketing campaign proposal.
Mr. Bennett read through it, nodding again and again.
“Good.”
“This is solid.”
“Let’s go with it.”
Then he looked up at me.
“Also, the Head of Marketing position has been open for a while.”
“We’ve talked it over, and we want you in the role.”
“The official announcement goes out next Monday.”
“If this campaign succeeds, that final Executive Vice President spot is yours.”
“You’ll get profit-sharing too.”
I immediately stood.
“Thank you, Mr. Bennett.”
“I won’t let you or the company down.”
When I walked out of his office, I was thrilled.
But I was shaken too.
If I hadn’t heard Ginger’s inner voice, I would’ve missed out on an incredible opportunity.
And once I was gone, who knew how much Chloe and Adrian would’ve mocked me and kicked me while I was down?
I returned to my office.
Later, Chloe found an excuse to bring me some files.
“Serena, what did Mr. Bennett say?”
“Nothing much.”
I shook my head.
Chloe pouted.
“Wow.”
“He didn’t even try to make you stay?”
She looked disappointed.
But the smug glint in her eyes gave her away.
That evening, Adrian was already waiting in the parking lot when we got off work.
Chloe slipped into the passenger seat without a second thought.
She propped her feet up in front of her, deliberately showing off her long legs without caring that her skirt was riding up.
Before, I’d always thought that since the three of us had grown up together, there was nothing strange about Adrian and Chloe being close.
I’d never thought twice about it.
Now that I was actually paying attention, I caught Adrian sneaking several looks at Chloe’s legs.
The hunger in his eyes was obvious.
“Serena.”
Adrian smiled.
“Chloe found this new Korean BBQ place that’s supposed to be really good.”
“I sent you the address.”
“Let’s go try it.”
“You two go.”
“I’m gonna pass.”
Adrian blinked.
“What?”
“Whatever you’ve got going on can wait.”
“Dinner with Chloe comes first.”
“Exactly!”
Chloe said as she checked herself in the mirror and played with her hair.
“If you don’t come, you’re not my best friend anymore!”
Before, I probably would’ve given in.
Now, it just sounded like a guilt trip.
“Forget it.”
“I’ve got something to take care of at home.”
I didn’t wait to see their reactions.
I turned, walked to my own car, and drove straight to the designer boutique that had sold the handbag.
“Hi.”
I placed the designer handbag on the counter.
“Could you check the product code on this handbag and see if it won?”
