Chloe immediately posted the necklace on 

Instagram to show it off. 

Just like always, she didn’t mention who had paid 

for it. 

The comments were full of envy. 

Someone asked if she’d suddenly gotten rich and 

how much she made. 

Chloe replied: 

[Nothing crazy!] 

Adrian commented right underneath: 

[Chloe’s amazing.] 

Anyone reading those comments would’ve thought Chloe was actually impressive. 

In reality, she’d been living off me. 

The necklace I wore barely cost over a thousand 

dollars. 

Chloe, meanwhile, had gone straight for a $25,000 

one. 

Chloe and Adrian sure loved spending my money. 

But I didn’t call her out. 

I wasn’t paying for it anyway. 

I wanted to see how Chloe, who was always living 

paycheck to paycheck, planned to cover that bill. 

Monday came. 

Chloe showed up at work wearing the $25,000 

necklace. 

Then she deliberately raised her voice. 

“Serena, pretty, right?” 

“Yeah. It’s pretty.” 

I smiled. 

The other coworkers immediately gathered 

around her. 

“How much was that necklace?” 

“$25,000.” 

Chloe answered while tugging lightly on my arm. 

She was warning me not to expose her in front of everyone. 

I wasn’t paying for it anyway, so I couldn’t be 

bothered to expose her. 

“Oh my God, seriously?” 

“$25,000?!” 

“Chloe, I had no idea you were that loaded!” 

“I wish I were as successful as you.” 

“Serena, look at your best friend, then look at you!” 

“She’s seriously impressive.” 

“Exactly!” 

“You may have brought Chloe into Brightwell 

Consumer Group, Serena, but she’s wearing a $25,000 necklace.” 

“And you?” 

“You’ve got nothing.” 

Everyone started talking at once. 

Chloe didn’t defend me once. 

If anything, she soaked up every word of praise. 

I just smiled. 

“All right, everyone, quiet down!” 

Mr. Bennett had arrived. 

“I have an announcement about the Head of 

Marketing position.” 

Chloe’s smile grew even brighter. 

She could barely hide her excitement. 

She clearly thought the promotion was hers. 

The rest of the department looked at Chloe too. 

They thought the same thing. 

After all, the rumor that I was quitting had spread everywhere. 

And with all the help I’d given Chloe, her 

performance ranked second in our department. 

Then Mr. Bennett turned to me. 

“Effective today, Serena is our new Head of 

Marketing.” 

Chloe’s head snapped toward me. 

Her eyes widened in shock. 

Everyone else froze too. 

I gave a small smile. 

“Thank you, Mr. Bennett.” 

“I appreciate the company’s trust.” 

“I won’t let you down.” 

“Good.” 

Mr. Bennett nodded. 

“Get ready. We have a meeting in an hour.” 

After he left, my coworkers crowded around me. 

“Serena, weren’t you quitting?” 

“Yeah!” 

“It’s been going around several departments.” 

“People were even saying it’d be a huge loss for the company if you left.” 

They exchanged confused looks. 

“Oh?” 

I raised an eyebrow. 

“Who told you I was leaving?” 

Every head turned toward Chloe. 

“Serena…” 

Chloe’s expression stiffened. 

She was obviously upset, but she didn’t dare show

“But I saw you walk into Mr. Bennett’s office with 

your resignation letter!” 

I smiled. 

“That wasn’t my resignation.” 

“It was my marketing proposal.” 

“What?” 

Chloe’s eyes went wide. 

Her face darkened. 

“But we agreed we’d quit together and go 

traveling!”
