The Broken Luna’s New Pack Chapter 05
One letter after another fell like an avalanche.
A pack member picked one up, opened it, and read it aloud.
“Warrior Marcus has submitted an application to leave the pack.”
“Pack nurse Kendall has submitted an application to leave the pack.”
“Patrol warrior Penelope has submitted an application to leave the pack.”
“…”
Every name belonged to a core member who had contributed to the pack and once protected it.
Watching the envelopes continue to fall, Damian and Rosalie’s expressions became darker and darker, “What’s going on? Why are they all leaving the pack?”
“They’re all leaving? Then what will happen to the pack?”
Rosalie gripped the envelope tightly, her voice trembling with panic.
Meanwhile, Damian frowned deeply, a bad feeling slowly rising in his heart.
He immediately called them one by one, “I’m sorry, Alpha. Willow was the one who brought us into the pack back then. Now that she has left, we want to leave with her.”
Before the person on the other end could finish speaking, Rosalie instantly lost her composure, “Again? This is because of her again?”
—
“For a Willow, you’re willing to abandon your jobs and leave the pack? Do you know you’ll become rogues once you leave? Have you all gone crazy?! What exactly did she give you? Why are you all so loyal to her?”
There was a brief silence on the other end.
Then came a voice full of disagreement, “Rosalie, Alpha Damian, do you really not know why we’re leaving? The Newmoon Pack today is no longer the Newmoon Pack from ten years ago.”
“We’re not leaving only because you betrayed Willow. We’re leaving because you both forgot why we built this pack in the first place.”
Rosalie and Damian fell silent.
Over the years, Damian and I had not only grown apart emotionally, but the original purpose behind our work had also completely changed.
He and Rosalie had started chasing profits. They believed the pack should establish as many partnerships as possible, provide various defense services to other packs, and continuously send well-trained warriors away to serve other packs.
But I believed the development and defense of our own pack, as well as the future of every warrior, mattered just as much.
Every warrior should receive proper training and be allowed to choose their own path, whether they wanted to protect other packs or apply for the Royal Warrior Program. They shouldn’t be forced to obey the Alpha’s orders and become soldiers for other packs simply because of profits.
—
Giving every warrior the freedom to choose had been the original purpose behind building our pack’s defense team.
But after my proposals were rejected again and again, and the warriors’ choices were slowly taken away, those principles and values we once fought for became nothing more than beautiful numbers on financial reports.
And little by little, I lost my feelings for the Damian who had once stood beneath the moonlight tree and sworn that he would build a pack where “every member could find the place that truly belonged to them.”
“Leaving the pack was a decision we all made together six months ago. During this time, it was Willow who convinced us to stay and told us not to give up on everything we had spent years building.”
“But Alpha, what did you do? You made unreasonable deals and dragged everyone into them. We only wanted to be warriors, to protect the pack, and to achieve our own dreams. We didn’t want to betray the purpose we started with. That’s all.”
One sentence after another struck Damian’s heart. Every word cut deeper than the last.
He opened his mouth, but he couldn’t say a single word.
Instead, memories of every argument he had with me flashed through his mind.
Had she already been disappointed in him long ago? They had once been comrades who fought side by side. But watching more and more pack members choose to leave, Rosalie completely lost control.
—
“But do you really think Willow is still the same person she was before? She killed my child! She wanted to climb her way up to become Alpha’s Luna. She was rejected, so does she still deserve to stay in this pack? She must have asked all of you to act along with her and create this scene, didn’t she?”
“She killed your child?”
Vivian let out a mocking laugh from the other end of the phone.
“Have you still not seen the latest investigation results released by the Royal Warriors?”
“That miscarriage scene… wasn’t it something you planned and acted out yourself?”
