The Christmas Prank That Ended Us Chapter 10
He said nothing.
Finally, he understood that I wasn’t throwing a tantrum or trying to punish him.
I had truly let him go.
No matter how much he did, how much he sacrificed, or how low he humbled himself, I would never turn back.
The next morning, the apartment across from mine was empty.
Before returning to the pack, Garrett left a note for me.
There were only a few words written on it.
“I’ll wait for you.”
I didn’t even read it. I threw it straight into the trash.
Neither of us expected that after Garrett returned to the pack, the real trouble had only just begun.
Serena, whose mental state had completely collapsed, placed all her obsession and hope on Garrett.
She had always secretly loved him. Now, after everyone in the pack said she had destroyed my engagement party out of jealousy, Serena became convinced that becoming Garrett’s Luna was the only way to fix her life.
From the day Garrett returned to the pack, Serena waited outside his house every single day.
—
She arrived at sunrise and didn’t leave until nightfall.
If Garrett refused to open the door, she would stand outside without moving.
If he tried to drive away, she would block his car.
Serena’s emotions became increasingly unstable. Some days she seemed clear-headed, while other days she completely lost control.
When she was calm, she would cry and say, “Garrett always had feelings for me. Otherwise, why would he have helped me prank Jasmine?”
When she broke down, she would grab onto Garrett’s clothes and scream,
“I don’t care! If you won’t make me your Luna, I’d rather die!”
My parents saw how obsessed and unstable Serena had become. At first, they still tried to convince Garrett to accept her.
They went to him again and again, persuading him and even guilt-tripping him.
“If it wasn’t for what happened at the engagement party, Serena wouldn’t have ended up like this. They’re both our daughters anyway. Does it really matter which one you marry?”
Garrett patiently explained at first.
But slowly, he became numb to their words.
Finally, one night, he drove Serena and my parents out of the pack himself and ordered that they would never be allowed to step foot
—
inside the pack territory again.
The moment they were gone and his world finally became quiet,
Garrett suddenly realized something.
The way he had once traveled all the way to Santorini, thinking his actions alone could move me, must have looked just as pathetic and humiliating to me as it truly was.
After Garrett left, Serena never had another moment of clarity.
My parents could no longer endure her unstable behavior, and eventually, they sent her to a mental health facility.
Another Christmas arrived.
My parents asked Imogen to send me photos.
The food on the table had gone cold, been reheated, and gone cold again.
They wanted to celebrate Christmas with me.
But I no longer needed them.
Alone in Santorini, I cleaned my apartment and bought myself a turkey.
No one laughed at me for entertainment.
No one forced me to be understanding and keep giving in.
For the first time, I enjoyed a peaceful holiday that belonged only to me.
The people who had caused pain remained trapped in the past.
—
The people who caused the pain stayed behind, trapped by their own choices, while those who fought to break free had found a new beginning far away.
As for me, I was finally living the life I had always deserved, peaceful, independent, and truly happy.
