The Magic That Made the Playboy Who Never Dates Fall for Me Chapter 10
I’m still DAZED when he KISSES me.
System screams in my ear. Mason’s fingers thread through my hair, cupping my cheek and ear.
It tickles.
Not just my ear.
But my heart too. ❤️
After a long moment, Mason pulls back. His voice comes out rough.
“Don’t you like me?”
He’s watching me like he might kiss me again any second.
“You’re the one who said it first. So why’d you go tell someone else you didn’t?”
His other hand finds my waist, tightening slowly.
“You stopped bringing me breakfast. You stopped coming to watch me play basketball. You have any idea how pissed I was when I came back from the court and saw you doing magic for Evan?”
I remember that ball Mason accidentally slammed into the blackboard.
Looked like he was about two seconds from throwing hands with Evan. 😂
I bite my lip.
—
Mason’s eyes drop to my lower lip, darkening.
He brushes his thumb across it.
“Say it,” he says. “Say you like me.”
I obey. “I like you.”
He kisses me again.
“Say it again.”
“I like you.”
“Know what I’m about to say?”
I blink. “Yeah.”
“What?”
“You don’t date in high school.”
…
He pinches my cheek lightly.
“Avery, you’re so dumb.” 😂
Oh.
I feel a little deflated.
Because I remember—Mason doesn’t like dumb people.
But the next second, I hear him say:
“I like you too.”
—
“Let’s date anyway.”
After Mason and I start dating, a lot of things change.
Like breakfast.
I stare at the mountain of food on my desk. “I can’t eat all this.”
“Eat what you can.” He’s watching me. “Pick what you like. Get full.”
“Every! You’re famous!”
I’ve barely finished breakfast when Sophie comes running over, phone in hand.
She shoves it in front of me. On the screen? My talent show performance.
Views are already in the millions.
I’m not surprised—event promoters have already reached out.
But I turn them all down.
Mason sits down beside me, glancing at Sophie’s phone. He goes still.
“This is the finale?”
—
He hadn’t seen the finale.
I can tell his mood has soured. 😔
Ever since we started dating, whenever he’s upset, it’s usually because of me.
Which means I have to be the one to cheer him up.
“I should’ve stayed that night.”
He wraps his arms around me from behind, his voice pressed against my ear.
My hand falters over my homework.
“Mason, shouldn’t you be heading home?”
It’s already ten. Normally he’d say goodbye by now.
Not tonight.
“Kicking me out?” 😂
His arms tighten around me. He reaches for my chin, tilting my face up to kiss me again.
I can still feel the unhappiness radiating off him.
System chimes in, confused as ever: [“I remember the second male lead being pretty emotionally stable. Why’s he been so moody lately? Did I miss something in his character profile?” 😂
When he finally pulls away, he lets go with a reluctant sigh.
“I’m going.”
—
I catch his hand before he can leave.
“Mason. Come watch my shows from now on. Okay?”
He looks at me.
“From now on when?”
“We have to get into colleges in the same area first. Then I can start booking paid gigs in college.”
Mason’s throat bobs. He steps closer again.
“So I can only watch your shows in college?”
I don’t catch his meaning.
System jumps in: [“Host, he’s saying he wants a future with you beyond that too!”]
I understand right away.
So I look at Mason, dead serious.
“You can come watch after we get married too.”
His cheek burns against mine. His heartbeat pounds so hard I can feel it through my own skin. ❤️
“I’m not leaving tonight,” he says.
I nod. “Okay.”
To make the most of our time together, I spend the whole night doing

homework. 🎉
After all, sleeping is a huge waste of time. 😂
