They Left Me Out of Their Group, So I’ll Leave Them Out of My Life Chapter 06

They Left Me Out of Their Group, So I’ll Leave Them Out of My Life Chapter 06

His smile vanished.

What group chat?”

Good Times Without Kira.”

Enzo froze, emotions flashing across his face.

First shock. Then guilt. Then anger, like I was the

one who’d crossed a line.

You went through my phone?”

I didn’t. You were in the shower. The notification

popped up.”

Kira, you”

He took a deep breath. Don’t you think reading

someone else’s messages crosses a line?”

Enzo, don’t you think making a group chat just to

leave me out, then having everyone lie to me,

crosses one?”

He was silent for a few seconds. Then he picked

up a napkin and wiped his hands.

You’re making that group into a much bigger deal

than it is.”

What does that even mean?”

It meanssometimes people want to hang out without everyone there.”

When you’re around, the vibe’s different. People don’t loosen up as much.”

He said it calmly, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.

Kira, be honest. Aren’t you a little too sensitive

sometimes?”

At that backyard barbecue, you said Nico’s joke wasn’t funny. You made it awkward for everyone”

So your solution was to make a group chat and

have everyone lie to me?”

Including my own brother?”

They added Marco themselves. That wasn’t me.”

Not you? Enzo, my name is literally in the group

name.”

He rubbed the back of his head, irritated.

Do you have to blow this so far out of proportion?”

Fine. The group name was out of line. I’ll change

  1. it. Is that what you want?”

You think the name is the problem?”

Then what is the problem? Kira, what do you want me to do?”

What, you want everyone to revolve around you? You want an invite to every single thing? That’s not

realistic.”

I looked at him and suddenly felt exhausted.

Not angry. Just bonedeep tired.

Enzo, in four years, how many times did you tell

me you were busy with family business when you

were actually hanging out with them?”

Not many”

What about my birthday last year?”

He went silent.

After a long time, he said, That nightyeah. That

was on me.”

But I took you out afterward to make up for it. You

said we were past it.”

Because I didn’t know the truth then.”

So what? Kira, people need space.”

You can’t feel hurt every time other people do

something without you.”

He was still trying to reason with me.

In that calm, perfectly reasonable tone, he was

telling me my hurt was my problem.

Okay.”

I don’t want to fight. Just take a minute and calm

down”

I said okay.”

I set down the trash bag. You’re right. People

need space.”

I walked into the bedroom and pulled out the suitcase I’d packed days ago.

Enzo followed me. The second he saw it, his face

changed.

What are you doing?”

Giving you space.”

Kira, can you not do this? You’re really moving out

over one little thing”

Enzo.”

I turned to look at him.

Two years and three months. More than seven

hundred messages. Eight people. That isn’t one

little thing.”

His mouth opened, but nothing came out.

I dragged the suitcase to the door.

As I put on my shoes, he caught up and grabbed

the suitcase handle.

Can you calm down? It’s the middle of the night.

Where are you even going?”

I rented an apartment.”

He froze.

When?”

Last week.”

He let go and stepped back, like I’d hit him.

But there was no panic on his face. No sign he

wanted to stop me.

I saw relief.

It lasted less than a second.

But I saw it clearly.

Kira, wait. Don’t go. Let’s talk.”

I opened the door.

There’s nothing left to talk about.”

The happy life you wanted was one without me

anyway.”

The door closed behind me.
