They Left Me Out of Their Group, So I’ll Leave Them Out of My Life Chapter 10

They Left Me Out of Their Group, So I’ll Leave Them Out of My Life Chapter 10

I know you’re angry.”

But he really regrets it. He’s lost almost twenty

pounds, work’s been a mess, and the boss even”

Nico.”

He stopped.

Do you remember what you said in that group chat?”

His face reddened.

I”

Last Memorial Day weekend, I asked Enzo if we could go somewhere together. He said you guys had a game.”

In the chat, you wrote, Just tell her we have a game. She’ll believe it.”

He lowered his head.

Kira, I justdidn’t think much of it at the time.”

None of you did.”

I said, But all that not thinkingadded up to more

than two years.”

The train reached my stop. I got off.

He didn’t follow.

When I got home, I sat on the couch for a while,

staring at nothing.

Nico had said Enzo wasn’t doing well.

I tried to figure out how I felt.

There was a faint ache.

Like hearing bad news about a stranger. You knew

it was sad, but it had nothing to do with you.

That feeling made one thing clear.

The love I’d felt for him for four years had been

real.

And now it was really gone.

The next morning at work, a coworker hurried over. The department head saw your proposal from yesterday. They loved it. They want you to present

at next week’s meeting.”

I paused, then smiled.

Okay. I’ll get ready.”

I put the job search on hold.

The manager in the new department was easier to work with, and the projects were interesting.

I decided to stay a while longer.

At lunch, I got a text from an unknown number.

Kira, this is Matteo. Enzo gave me your number.

Sorry to bug you.”

He asked me to tell you he deleted the whole chat

history, and everyone has apologized.”

He wants to know if you’d meet him.”

I looked at the message and actually laughed.

Even his apology needed a messenger.

Even asking to meet me had to go through a

friend.

Four years together, and whenever he had

something hard to say, there was always someone

between us.

I replied, No need. Thanks.”

Matteo didn’t text again.

After work that day, Enzo finally called me himself.

I answered.

Kira.”

Yeah.”

Can I see you?”

Say what you need to say.”

I can’t explain it over the phone”

Try.”

He was quiet for a while. When he finally spoke,

his voice was rough.

That groupI made it.”

My grip tightened around the phone.

I made it after a gettogether two years ago.”

You left early that night. Everyone relaxed. The

whole mood changed.”

I thoughtmaybe once in a while we could do.

that.”

So you made a group chat, added everyone, and

used it to make plans without me.”

At first, I didn’t mean anything by it. It was just

once or twice”

Then it became a habit.”

Kira, I know it was wrong. I know.”

What part do you think was wrong?”

We shouldn’t have lied.”

It’s bigger than the lying.”

He went quiet again.

I said, Enzo, I have one question.”

Ask.”

If I hadn’t seen that notification, when were your

ever going to tell me?”

He didn’t answer.

The answer was obvious.

Never.

Got it.”

Kira”

Nothing else to say. I’m hanging up.”

Wait, Kira. II miss you.”

His voice was barely above a whisper, like it had

taken everything in him to get the words out.

I closed my eyes for a second.

Enzo, you don’t miss me.”

You miss having someone to call building

management, take in your packages, and

remember your sister’s birthday.”

That’s not”

It is. You miss the convenience. You don’t miss

me.”

I hung up.

Then I blocked his number.
