When He Asked Me to Stay for Her, I Chose Myself Chapter 11

When He Asked Me to Stay for Her, I Chose Myself Chapter 11

The person’s hair was wild and unkempt.

His face was covered in stubble, and his clothes were stained and dirty.

I stared at him for a moment before finally recognizing him.

It was Ethan.

I never expected him to actually find me.

“Ryan!”

“You were the one who tricked Vivian into coming abroad, weren’t you?”

“Why are you taking Vivian away from me?”

“You’re even taking your friend’s girlfriend away.”

“Are you still my friend?”

Ethan grabbed Ryan by the collar and shouted furiously.

“Taking your girlfriend away?”

“Seriously…”

Ryan punched Ethan.

“Back then, I went on a secret research mission and asked you to look after Vivian for me!”

“What did you do?”

“You told Vivian that I didn’t want her anymore!”

“You took the gifts and flowers I prepared for her and used them to confess your feelings to her!”

When I heard that, I froze.

Then I finally understood everything.

No wonder Ethan had known everything about me back then.

No wonder he could say so many touching things.

No wonder Ethan changed later.

It turned out everything had been a carefully constructed lie.

I had been nothing more than a target in Ethan’s carefully planned deception.

“No one else knows about this.”

“Vivian won’t believe you!”

Ethan gritted his teeth.

“But I know now.”

At that moment, I slowly walked out.

I looked at Ethan quietly.

“You’re worse than I ever imagined.”

Ethan immediately panicked.

He hurriedly got up and rushed toward me.

“Vivian, listen to me!”

“I’m sorry.”

“I didn’t mean to lie to you.”

“I loved you too much. I wanted to be with you so badly that I came up with such a ridiculous plan.”

He reached out to grab my hand.

I stepped back and gently avoided him.

Then I asked,

“What about Madison?”

“Did you like her?”

“No.”

“I don’t like her!”

Ethan shook his head firmly.

“I swear, Vivian.”

“There was really nothing between Madison and me.”

“Everyone knows now. She deliberately set me up!”

“Is that so?”

My expression remained cold.

“Do you know that seeing you like this only makes me feel even more disgusted?”

“You never know how to take responsibility for what you do.”

“Even if there had never been a Madison Bennett, there would have been an Emily Carter or a Chloe Parker.”

“Because we had been together for four years.”

“You were already tired of me and wanted something new.”

“And now you suddenly realized that I was the better choice.”

“What did you think I was?”

As I said those words, sweat continued forming on Ethan’s forehead.

“No, that’s not it…”

“Vivian, I…”

I cut him off.

“The kind of love I want is one where I’m the only person in your heart.”

“And besides, I had already built a life where I didn’t need you anymore.”

“Vivian…”

Ethan stared into my eyes.

He desperately searched for even a trace of love.

But there was nothing.

Only coldness and determination remained.

Suddenly, Ethan felt a sharp pain in his chest.

His body finally gave out.

He collapsed to the ground and lost consciousness.

In the end, security sent him to the hospital.

After that…

There was no more news about Ethan.

Three years later.

I won an industry award for developing a new cancer drug.

Right after stepping down from the award stage, a staff member handed me a letter.

The signature on it was Ethan’s.

[Congratulations on achieving such an incredible accomplishment. I’m truly happy for you.]

[Compared to you, I’m nothing. This is the punishment I deserve. This is the consequence of my own choices.]

[I hope you continue to achieve greater things in your research. I wish you a better and better future.]

After reading it…

I threw it straight into the trash.

I didn’t need congratulations from someone who was no longer part of my life.

When I walked out of the building, Ryan came running toward me with a bouquet of flowers.

“Vivian, congratulations!”

“And…”

“I love you.”

“Can you give me a chance?”

This was his tenth confession.

I smiled and nodded.

Maybe…

It was time to give love another chance.
