While Pregnant, My Alpha Husband Auctioned Me Off for One Dollar Chapter 06

The doorbell rang right on time the following

afternoon.

Gavin opened the door and immediately took the

two enormous gift boxes from Vera’s hands. Why

did you buy so much? You’re not well yourself. You

shouldn’t be carrying all this.”

His voice overflowed with concern, and he made

no attempt to hide it even with his pregnant wife

standing only a few feet away.

Vera wore a pure white dress and deliberately light

makeup. Her scent was faint, and paired with the

deliberately fragile expression on her face, it made

her look harmless and pitiful.

It’s fine, Gavin. As long as Erin and the baby are

okay, what does it matter if I’m tired?”

She changed into slippers, sat down on the sofa,

and smiled at me. Erin, look what I brought you.”

She opened one of the boxes and pulled out a

maternity outfit. The fabric was coarse, the cut

was outdated, and it was covered in a cheap

cartoon print.

I asked a friend in Canada to buy it. Apparently, it’s made from allnatural materials and is especially good for the baby.”

She held the outfit against me and tilted her head. The style is a little plain, but now that you’re pregnant, you don’t need to dress up the way you used to, do you?”

One glance was enough to tell me she was lying. It was the cheapest clearance item from a discount

store.

Thank you, Vera.I accepted it with a smile and tossed it casually aside. But Gavin has already ordered a whole wardrobe of silk maternity clothes for me. We can put this away for now.”

Vera’s expression stiffened, and she instinctively looked at Gavin.

He came over at once and slipped an arm around my shoulders. Vera picked this out especially for you. You can wear it around the apartment.”

Then he turned to her. Didn’t you say you hadn’t been sleeping well? I had my assistant order a French aromatherapy blend to help you sleep. It’ll

be delivered later.”

They continued fussing over each other right in front of me, completely ignoring my presence.

In the past, Gavin’s favoritism would have driven.

me into an argument. Then he would have.

accused me of being immature and unreasonable.

Now, I only felt sick.

Oh, I almost forgot!Vera suddenly rose and walked to the cabinet beside the fireplace. Gavin,

where’s the crystal picture frame I gave you?”

Our firstanniversary photograph had once stood

there, but it had disappeared a few days earlier.

I don’t know where the housekeeper put it,Gavin

replied casually.

How could she just move it? I chose that frame

myself.”

Vera began rummaging through the cabinet.

Crash.

The frame holding our firstanniversary

photograph was accidentallyswept onto the

floor. Glass shattered across the floor, and a

jagged crack split the image directly across my

face.

Oh no! Erin, I’m so sorry!Vera gasped, covering

her mouth as her eyes instantly filled with tears. I

really didn’t mean to. I was only trying to find the

frame”

She crouched and pretended to reach for the

broken glass.

Don’t touch it!Gavin lunged forward, seized her

hand, and pulled her upright. Did you cut

yourself?”

He examined every one of her fingers with frantic

care. Only after confirming that she was

unharmed did he finally breathe again.

Then he looked at me. Erin, Vera didn’t do it on purpose. It’s only a picture frame. Now that it’s broken, we can replace it with a new one.”

He placed deliberate emphasis on the words.

replace it.

He was clearly implying that our marriage could

be replaced just as easily.

I remained on the sofa without shifting an inch.

It’s fine. Since it’s broken, throw it away.”

I stood and smiled at them. I’m tired, so I’m going

upstairs to rest. Gavin, take good care of Vera for

me.”

The moment I turned away, the smile vanished

from my face.

I entered the master bedroom, locked the door, and took out my private phone. Then I dialed the

secure number Damian had given me.

Mr. Black,I said when he answered. I need

access to the computer in Gavin’s study. I want

every financial record from the past five years

and”

I paused.

The surveillance footage from Mount Sinai

Hospital on the day Vera lost her baby two years

ago.”

They thought they could keep performing in front

of me.

Behind their backs, I had already begun collecting

enough evidence to destroy them both.
