HURRICANE! She Begged My Brother to Save Her—This Time, I Said No Chapter 08
A vein pulsed in Marcus’s temple.
“Are you insane?”
“When did I ever say any of that?”
“You’re just an intern. How dare you accuse me?”
Chloe gave a cold laugh.
“So now I’m just an intern?”
“You didn’t call me ‘just an intern‘ when you had
your arms around me.”
One of the officers stepped forward.
“That’s enough. Both of you are coming down to
the station with us.”
Marcus dug in his heels and kept protesting.
“She’s slandering me!”
“She’s just one of my subordinates!”
Chloe lunged at him and clawed at his face.
“Bullshit!”
“You planned all of this!”
Her nails left several bloody scratches across
Marcus’s face.
The elevator doors opened again.
Whitmore Global’s legal team rushed onto the
rooftop with Corporate Secretary Evelyn Pierce.
Evelyn carried a document, her expression grim.
She walked straight up to Marcus.
“Mr. Coleman.”
“Chairman Richard Whitmore has ordered that you
be placed on immediate administrative leave.”
“Whitmore Global will cooperate fully with the
police investigation.”
Sweat beaded on Marcus’s forehead.
“Why?”
Evelyn held the document out in front of him.
“The company has confirmed that you abused.
your authority and secretly manipulated the
executive promotion process.”
“The evidence was found on your office computer.”
Marcus’s knees buckled.
He dropped to the ground.
After Chloe and Marcus were taken away, no one
on the rooftop spoke.
The male coworker who had attacked Tyler most
viciously kept his head down and avoided
everyone’s eyes as he swiped across his phone.
I glanced at the screen.
He was deleting the messages he had posted in
the company Slack channel.
Several coworkers beside him didn’t dare look at
me either.
Mom finally couldn’t stay on her feet.
She held on to the railing and lowered herself onto
a nearby bench.
Her fingertips were still trembling.
“Tyler.”
“Come here and let Mom look at you.”
Tyler walked over.
She touched his face, then his shoulders.
Only after confirming that he was standing safely
in front of her did her tears finally fall.
“You’re okay.”
“Thank God you’re okay.”
Dad stood beside her, his expression frighteningly grim.
He turned toward my coworkers.
“Who called my son a rapist just now?”
“Who said that because our family has money, we could alter the security footage?”
No one answered.
Dad scoffed.
“You were all pretty loud when you were insulting
him.”
“What happened?”
“Cat got your tongues?”
A female employee said quietly,
“Mr. Bennett… Chloe fooled us too.”
Dad didn’t respond.
He turned to me instead.
“Natalie.”
“Write down all their names.”
I nodded.
“Already done.”
“I also saved all the footage from the rooftop.”
Those coworkers went pale.
One man hurriedly protested.
“Isn’t this going too far?”
“We were only speaking up because we thought
someone was being wronged.”
I met his eyes.
“Rushing to condemn someone before you know
the facts isn’t standing up for justice.”
“It’s spreading lies.”
He shut his mouth.
Evelyn Pierce led me to the executive conference
room.
Several directors were already there.
Chloe’s candidate profile was still displayed on the
projection screen.
The photo had been taken when she first joined
the company.
A white blouse.
An open, innocent smile.
Chairman Whitmore sat at the head of the table,
his expression grim.
“Natalie.”
“Whitmore Global will give you a proper
explanation for what happened today.”
Before I could answer, one of the directors
frowned.
“Mr. Coleman placed an intern on the executive candidate list without authorization.”
“That must be investigated.”
“But Natalie’s handling of this situation was also inappropriate for a department head.”
I looked at him and remembered who he was.
He was the director who had recommended Chloe
to the company.
“Then how do you think I should’ve handled it?”
He cleared his throat.
“Management should handle problems with
empathy.”
“You also need to know when to be flexible.”
