After Three Years as a Deranged Alpha’s Sedative, I Faked My Death Chapter 04
Three days later, Adrian took me to a charity galaÂ
at the Plaza Hotel.Â
The moment we entered the ballroom, I sawÂ
Selena standing beneath a crystal chandelier.Â
She wore a red haute couture gown that made herÂ
impossible to miss and instantly drew every eye inÂ
the room.Â
Her cloying rose scent threaded through theÂ
crowd and wrapped around Adrian.Â
He stopped dead, and his grip on my wristÂ
tightened hard enough to make my bones ache.Â
Selena walked over with a glass of champagne inÂ
her hand, her gaze sweeping over me beforeÂ
stopping on my eyes.Â
“Long time no see, Adrian.”Â
She gave a soft laugh.Â
“Your taste really hasn’t changed at all.”Â
He stared at her, his breathing growing heavier asÂ
that dangerous scarlet glow crept back into hisÂ
eyes.Â
Another rage episode was about to begin.Â
I immediately followed the emergency protocolÂ
the Black family had given me, releasing my scent as I clung to his arm.Â
“Let’s go somewhere quieter and sit down, okay?”Â
“Don’t touch me!”Â
Adrian flung my hands away.Â
Selena deliberately stepped closer and ran herÂ
fingers over his tie.Â
“Still angry with me? I’m back now, aren’t I?”Â
He did not pull away.Â
I watched them without feeling a thing and almost wanted to ask a server to bring me popcorn.Â
But as a competent substitute, I had to lookÂ
jealous and devastated.Â
I rushed forward and shoved Selena’s hand away.Â
“Don’t touch him! You walked out on him. WhatÂ
right do you have to come back now?”Â
Selena immediately threw herself backward with aÂ
scream.Â
“Selena!”Â
Adrian caught her without hesitation and shoved me hard at the same time.Â
I was wearing four–inch heels and had no chance of keeping my balance.Â
The force sent me crashing backward into an enormous champagne tower.Â
Hundreds of glasses collapsed at once and crashed down over my body.Â
I slammed onto the glass–strewn floor, pain ripping through my right arm so sharply that I could barely breathe.Â
A jagged shard drove into my forearm, and bloodÂ
poured out at once, staining the white carpet red.Â
The ballroom went dead silent.Â
The metallic scent of blood drowned out every perfume and werewolf scent in the room, spreading through the air in an instant.Â
Still holding Selena, Adrian turned toward me.Â
The moment he saw the blood covering the floor, his pupils contracted sharply, and the madness in his eyes vanished.Â
He released Selena without thinking and took oneÂ
step toward me.Â
“Erin…”Â
This time, I did not cry out that it hurt the way I had before.Â
I simply sat among the blood and broken glass, looking at him in silence without a trace ofÂ
emotion on my face..Â
“Adrian.”Â
It was the first time I had ever said his name inÂ
such a calm voice.Â
He stopped immediately.Â
Bracing my left hand against the floor, I slowly pushed myself upright while blood streamed down my arm.Â
“I’m a little tired. I won’t be staying with youÂ
tonight.”Â
Then I turned and walked out of the ballroomÂ
without looking at him again.
