My Best Friend’s Perfect Boyfriend Was My Alpha Fiancé Chapter 02
On the other end of the phone, Jonathan’s voice was gentle and low, but he wasn’t talking to me.
“I was too excited just now and hurt you. Don’t move. I’ll put some medicine on it.”
Victoria’s coquettish voice followed right after, “Why are you worrying about me? Hazel is still waiting for you.”
Jonathan let out a soft scoff.
“Hazel has a good temper. She’s best at waiting for people. She’s nothing like you, always making a scene.”
A wave of nausea rushed through me.
I immediately hung up the call, and the screen went completely dark.
Looking at the mess around me, I forced a smile that looked worse than crying.
That was right. I was the best at waiting for him.
But a broken relationship could never return to what it used to be. And for a reply that would never come, I no longer wanted to wait.
I picked up my phone and calmly made a call, “Hello. I have something important to report to the Alpha King.”
The pale lights of the Royal Warrior Camp fell on me, sending a bone-deep chill through my body.
The warrior knocked on the table and asked, “Something this serious happened. Where are your family members? Where is your mate?”
I opened my mouth, ready to say that I no longer had any family left.
But before I could speak, the door was pushed open. Victoria walked in wearing high heels.
“I’m her best friend. I was there too. You can ask me anything.”
The warrior looked at me, covered in blood and injuries, then glanced at Victoria, who looked perfectly dressed and untouched.
“You were also at the scene. How come you don’t have a single injury?”
Victoria looked at me and smiled meaningfully, “Because my boyfriend arrived first and rescued me.”
The room fell silent for a moment. The warrior’s gaze toward me instantly filled with pity.
The cold draft moved through the hall.
Victoria took off her coat and wrapped it around me, then stayed by my side, helping me sign documents and complete the paperwork.
A female warrior passing by handed me a cup of hot tea and sighed, “Your friend is really kind to you.”
I held the warm cup in my hands and looked at Victoria through the steam rising from the tea.
I remembered the first time I struggled through my shift. She had stayed by my side for two days and two nights without leaving.
When I was at my lowest and had spent all my money on tuition, leaving me unable to afford food, she always shared half of hers with me.
We once promised that we would be each other’s strongest support for the rest of our lives.
How did we end up like this?
When Victoria finished the paperwork and returned, she naturally helped pull my slipping coat back over my shoulders.
I stared at her, my voice hoarse, “Why did you do this?”
Victoria froze.
A trace of frustration appeared in her eyes, as if she couldn’t understand why I was still refusing to see the truth.
“Hazel, you love him too much. You’ve completely lost yourself because of him.”
“I told you a long time ago. A man like Jonathan is calculating and surrounded by people who adore him. Someone as innocent as you could never control him.”
“As your friend, how could I watch you walk into a trap? I only wanted to test him for you. Who would have thought he would fall for temptation so easily?”
Victoria always said Jonathan’s blue eyes were too charming and that he was definitely not a good mate.
Jonathan also always said Victoria had bad intentions and warned me not to get close to her too much.
Every time they met, they would clash like enemies, with tension filling the air between them.
It was me who dragged Jonathan along to accommodate Victoria’s preferences, and it was me who begged Victoria to accept my mate, foolishly trying to keep the peace between them.
Victoria clearly remembered those moments too.
She laughed so hard her shoulders shook.
“The day you introduced us, I rubbed my foot against his under the table. Who would have thought he would react immediately?”
“That night, after he took you home, he came straight to my apartment. Hazel, you never told me your mate was this good in bed.”
That day was my birthday.
My stomach churned violently.
Looking at my pale face, Victoria slowly continued.
“Oh, and there’s something else. Every time his replies were so slow, it was because he was with me. Blame your Alpha fiancé for not being a one-minute man. Otherwise, you would have received his replies much earlier.”
“Stop talking!”
I covered my ears, trembling all over.
No wonder, at some point, Jonathan’s attitude toward Victoria had changed from, “Your friend is so annoying,” to, “Why hasn’t Victoria come today?”
No wonder I occasionally smelled the same perfume on him that Victoria wore.
Memories crashed over me like waves.
Every single clue I had ignored came back to mock my blindness and foolishness.
Just then, Jonathan called.
Victoria leaned closer to my ear and whispered with a mocking smile.
“Do you believe that even if you tell him right now that you were raped, he would still hang up on you without hesitation and come running to me the moment I send him a message?”
After a long silence, I held onto my last bit of hope and spoke, “Jonathan, I was—”
At the same time, Victoria opened their chat window and sent him a single period.
Ding.
A clear notification sound came through the phone.
The next second, the call was cut off without hesitation.
The cold beeping tone pierced through me like a knife, stabbing straight into my heart.
Then, Victoria’s phone rang.
A provocative smile lifted the corners of her lips as she slowly pressed the answer button.
Looking straight at me, she said word by word:
“Jonathan, I’m pregnant.”
