Faked Amnesia, Real Luna Revenge Chapter 02
He spat out a single word, cold and merciless, cutting me off. I dated Joey for seven years and had been bonded as mates for three.
Ten full years together.
In all that time, he had never spoken harshly to me. Even when we fought, he usually gave in, letting me vent my anger and frustration. Once I was done, he would pull me into his arms and coax me gently.
The harshest thing he had ever said to me was, “Pooh Bear, are you done yet?”
Today was the same. He apologized afterward, grabbed his car keys, and said he was going out to buy me pizza.
I never imagined that one short trip would make him forget me entirely.
“Joey, I’m your Luna,” I said.
I still told him the truth. I thought he would immediately let go of her hand and draw a clear line between them.
But he didn’t.
He only frowned and looked me up and down, his gaze lingering for half a second on my mud-stained feet, before saying coolly and with certainty, “You’re not my type.”
I froze.
My wolf desperately released pheromones toward his wolf, but there was no response. She let out a despairing howl.
I still remembered the day Joey got down on one knee to propose. Holding the ring, he spoke with devotion and sincerity.
“Misty, if you don’t marry me, my wolf will be alone for the rest of his life. Please, just take pity on me.”
I had been deeply moved, yet I suppressed my happiness and let out a proud little huff. “I don’t believe that. I’m not the only she-wolf in the world.”
“But you’re the one the Moon Goddess chose for me. Without you, I’ll die.”
The gentle, earnest boy from my memories overlapped with the cold, indifferent man standing before me.
Tears poured out uncontrollably. Looking at the bandage around his forehead, I told my wolf that Joey had only lost his memory.
“As long as he isn’t hurt and he’s still alive, I should be grateful.”
“I believe he’ll remember everything eventually. He’ll remember our past. He’ll remember that I’m his Luna.”
“Misty…” my wolf hesitated, then said softly, “He isn’t worth this. Misty, he doesn’t deserve your tears, your love, or your trust.”
But my eyes were burning red, and I didn’t understand what she meant at all.
I stubbornly told myself it was fine. We could take it slowly.
…
Joey didn’t believe I was his Luna. The next day, I brought our Mate Bond Agreement for him to see.
He stared at the photo on the contract and the date of our Mate Ceremony for a long time without speaking.
I watched every shift in his expression, hope rising as I asked softly, “Does any of this feel familiar?”
When he finally looked up, the cold strangeness in his eyes sent a chill through me. The fragile hope I had built shattered instantly.
He still didn’t remember. At that moment, the hospital room door opened from the outside.
Sansa’s sweet, delicate voice followed. “Pooh Bear, I made you creamy mushroom soup and beef patties you like. Try some…”
Her voice stopped abruptly.
She looked at me with unease. “Miss Welch, why are you here again?”
That woman didn’t even call me Luna. And the moment I heard “Pooh Bear,” the anger I had been suppressing completely exploded.
Without Sansa, I would never have fought with Joey.
If I hadn’t fought with him, he wouldn’t have gone out in the middle of the night to buy pizza.
If he hadn’t gone out, he wouldn’t have had the accident. He wouldn’t have lost his memory.
Everything that had happened over these days destroyed any trace of elegance or composure I once had.
I stepped forward and swung my hand hard across her face. A sharp slap echoed through the room.
