Faked Amnesia, Real Luna Revenge Chapter 05
Not long after, Joey was discharged from the hospital.
He did not return to the Alpha residence. Instead, he moved in with Sansa.
Louis called to comfort me, telling me not to look for Joey for the time being. He said the injury to Joey’s head was not severe and that his memory should come back soon.
I asked Louis what “soon” meant.
He said maybe three months. Maybe half a year.
But even if Joey regained his memory, he would already have cheated.
When that day came, could I really pretend nothing had happened?
In the dead of night, my mind could not stop replaying the image of the two of them wrapped around each other, kissing passionately. The thought of my mate, the man I loved, sleeping with another woman made my stomach revolt.
I would rush to the bathroom and throw up, unable to sleep no matter what I did.
Then my phone started vibrating outside. In the silence of the bedroom, the sound was painfully clear. I did not even bother turning off the faucet before hurrying out.
“Hello,” I said.
There was no immediate response on the other end.
Only soft, wet sounds, mixed with a man’s heavy, hurried breathing.
Before I could speak again, a woman said shyly, “Baby, you seem extra excited today. Do you really like me dressing up as a nurse? Next time I can buy a mini skirt. I’ll be the student and you can be the teacher, okay?”
Joey replied lazily, “Sure.”
My head started buzzing. It felt like all the blood in my body froze.
The sound of a plastic wrapper tearing was unbearably familiar.
The moment I realized what the two of them were doing on the other end of the line, I hung up immediately. Nausea surged up again and I covered my mouth, rushing back into the bathroom.
After throwing up, I felt dizzy and weak all over. I turned off the faucet and leaned against the wall as I walked out, tears streaming down my face.
My phone suddenly lit up. Who was this?
I opened the chat. It was a message.
[I’m Declan.]
Declan was the Alpha of Cinderpeak Pack and one of Joey’s investors.
While I was still dazed, my phone chimed again. Another message came in, this time from an unlisted number.
I opened it and saw only a video. I tapped it.
It was explicit footage. The man’s face was filmed clearly.
It’s my mate, Joey.
In that instant, I completely lost control. A tearing pain ripped through my chest, so intense I could barely breathe.
Clutching my chest, I felt something snap. Happiness drained out of me, little by little.
I collapsed onto the floor, curling in on myself, sobbing until my throat burned.
Ever since I found out Joey had slept with Sansa, I had been living in constant torment.
I could not accept my mate having sex with another woman.
But he did it because he had lost his memory, and I did not know how to blame him.
I even blamed myself. If I had not argued with him so often, if I had tried to comfort him instead of fighting, if I had kept him at home that night instead of letting him go out to buy pizza, would the accident never have happened? Would we still be a loving, happy couple?
We were both twenty eight years old now. For more than twenty years, we had been part of each other’s entire lives.
Like bones and flesh fused together, tearing them apart was almost impossible, and unbearably painful.
But still, it felt filthy and disgusting.
What was I supposed to do?
I covered my face, my heart shredded, feeling like I was sinking into a dark, lightless ocean with no way out.
I scrolled aimlessly on my phone when WhatsApp chimed. It was a message from Declan.
I opened the chat and saw he had sent me a location. It was Starcrest Club.
The typing indicator appeared, and soon another message came in.
[Want to come sit for a bit?]
