He Framed Me for a Ring That Was Never Real Chapter 05

I held the recording of my call with Blaire. At last, I had something I could use to fight back.

Spencer stayed in the study for a long time before coming out, all traces of anger gone from his face.

He carried a document over and tossed it onto the coffee table in front of me.

It was a divorce settlement agreement.

“You wanted an answer? Here it is.”

“Sign it, waive your claim to all marital assets, and we’re even.”

I read the clause stating, “Audrey voluntarily waives all rights to the marital estate,” and nearly laughed.

“Why would I do that?”

“Because you humiliated me in front of everyone.” Spencer looked down at me. “Audrey, I thought you were smart enough to know when to put the family first. Clearly, I was wrong. The Callahan name matters far more than your pathetic little need to prove your innocence.”

I stood, pulled out my phone, and prepared to play Blaire’s recording.

“If everyone finds out that ring was fake from the beginning, who do you think will be humiliated then?”

Spencer’s expression changed instantly.

He had not expected me to get Blaire to talk.

He lunged forward and ripped the phone from my hand.

“What are you doing?! Are you trying to destroy Blaire?”

“You destroyed me first!” I reached for the phone, but he clamped one hand around my wrist.

He leaned over me, every trace of his mask gone. All that remained was cruelty and menace.

“Audrey, you’re an unemployed housewife. You wouldn’t last a month without me. Your parents’ comfortable life, Erin’s job, which of them didn’t depend on the Callahan family’s connections? Make this public, and I’ll make every one of you pay.”

My breath caught at the threat.

I had given up my career for our marriage, and my parents had indeed lived more comfortably because of the Callahans’ connections.

Spencer had also used his connections to secure Erin’s first job after graduation.

He controlled my income and my family’s safety net.

When he saw the color drain from my face, he finally released me.

He tossed my phone onto the couch but did not give it back yet.

He deleted Blaire from my contacts, then cleared the call history between us.

Only after that did he throw the phone back into my hands.

“A recording?” His voice dripped with contempt. “Without the original call log, how are you going to prove the audio wasn’t edited? Who’s going to believe someone everyone already thinks is a thief?”

He did not even check whether the recording file was still there because he was certain I would never dare release it.

I tightened my grip on the phone and said nothing. He thought he had already won.
