He Gave Her an Hour, I Chose Another Groom in Seconds Chapter 07
“You really expect me to believe all that special treatment was just friendship? That necklace you bought her—how many times did I tell you I loved it? I said I wanted it. I even sent you the direct link.”
“What did you tell me? You said it sold out instantly, that you could get it for me later!” My voice stayed low, but each word landed like a blade.
I watched his face turn deathly pale and kept going. “But then you turned around and bought it for Willa. Silas, did you think I was some fool you could toy with?”
“You massaged her ankle right in front of your fiancée. You played video games with her. You let us miss our appointment just to wait for her to use the restroom… Is that what you call looking out for a friend?”
“You’re both pathetic—one playing dumb, the other throwing herself at him without an ounce of shame.”
Silas parted his lips, unable to form a single excuse. He could barely breathe.
I pulled my gaze away from him. “When I cleared my head and looked back at you, Silas… All I felt was revulsion.”
I grabbed my bag and stood to leave.
I’d barely reached the café door when it swung open from outside. I ran straight into Willa.
She must have heard from someone that things between Silas and
—
me were over. She didn’t even bother pretending anymore.
Triumph gleamed in her eyes, no longer hidden. She lifted an eyebrow when she saw me. “Well, looks like you and Silas finally split up?”
I stared at her, my smile fading. “Willa. You’re truly an ungrateful snake.”
Willa huffed dismissively. She folded her arms, smirking like she’d already won. “Ungrateful? Don’t wallow in self-pity, Chloe. All your kindness was just you feeling superior, tossing me crumbs so you could play saint.”
“Men go to whoever can win them over. If you can’t hold onto your man, don’t blame me.”
She stepped forward, closing the distance until our faces nearly touched.
Her voice dropped, sharp and venomous. “Besides, the worst you managed to do was take away that mediocre job you got me once. What else can you do? Silas will take care of me from now on. Just wait and watch how I—”
Slap! I couldn’t hold back any longer. I swung my hand and struck her hard across the face. Her head snapped violently to one side.
“You’d better pray Silas supports you for the rest of your life. Bitch!” I stepped sideways and walked past her.
Willa clutched her quickly swelling cheek, stunned for two seconds. Then she remembered Silas was still inside.
She shoved open the booth door and ran to him, sobbing out her
—
story. “Silas, you have to see this. I ran into Chloe out front. I only wanted to talk her into reconciling with you. Without a word, she slapped me!”
She tilted her face upward to show the vivid red handprint burning on her cheek. “Silas, Chloe’s completely set on walking away. I don’t think she’ll change her mind at all. Maybe… you two should just call it quits.”
Silas fixed her with a dark, heavy stare. “Call it quits. Then what?”
Light flared instantly in Willa’s eyes. She latched onto his arm at once. “Then be with me! Silas, look how good I am to you. I’m pretty, easygoing. Unlike Chloe, who’s always wearing that sour expression, and—”
Willa hadn’t finished her fawning line when Silas shoved her roughly away.
He stood up, towering over her. “Don’t flatter yourself. You don’t deserve to even be mentioned in the same sentence as Chloe.”
