He Pretended to Have Amnesia and Chose My Best Friend, I Left Chapter 09
My mom actually went. Took the express train and everything.
She filmed everything and sent it to me.
Right in the middle of the ceremony, a man no one recognized stormed up to the altar and grabbed the mic from the officiant.
“I object to this marriage.”
The guests murmured, confused.
But Tessa… Tessa went white. She shrank behind Callum, hands over her face.
Callum’s face hardened. He was sure I had put him up to it.
He signaled for security.
But the man wasn’t done.
“You think you can just marry some other guy and pretend the baby you’re carrying isn’t mine, Tessa?”
“That’s my baby. And no matter what you do, my kid is going to know who his real father is.”
“What did you just say?”
Callum looked like he’d been punched in the gut.
The guy laughed in his face.
“What, she didn’t tell you?”
—
“You really agreed to raise my kid? That’s a special kind of stupid, buddy.”
Tessa grabbed Callum’s arm, her voice cracking.
“I’ve never seen him before! Callum, please, you have to believe me.”
Then she pivoted.
“Maren did this. She hired him to ruin our wedding.”
That social media caption of hers had been nagging at me. I knew I’d seen it before.
I dug through months of old posts until I found it.
Before the accident, Tessa had posted the exact same caption, about a different man. Her actual boyfriend.
She’d hidden the post once things started with Callum.
All I did was ask the real estate agent to let it slip to Tessa’s ex that she was getting married.
If she’d been innocent, none of this would have blown up.
The man sneered.
“Maren, Karen, whatever her name is, I don’t know any Maren.”
“But I sure as hell know you.”
“I know you pretty damn well, actually. I know about the birthmark on your thigh, the mole on your chest…”
Callum’s mother fainted right there in the front row.
—
The whole place erupted.
Callum dragged Tessa to a clinic that same day to demand a prenatal paternity test.
When the results finally came back, the truth was out. The baby wasn’t his.
He grabbed Tessa by the collar.
“Is this the surprise you had planned for our wedding?”
Callum’s mother had barely come around before the news hit, and she passed out again.
My mom was on the couch, laughing so hard she could barely breathe.
“You should have seen Callum’s face. I almost died laughing.”
Still laughing, she sighed when the doorbell rang.
“Your father forgot his keys again. Third time this week.”
…
“I swear, the man’s memory gets worse by the day.”
She went to the door, still complaining.
She opened it. Callum.
