He Pretended to Have Amnesia and Chose My Best Friend, I Left Chapter 10

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me.”

She tried to shut the door in his face.

Callum jammed his foot in the door.

“You were at the wedding. Maren sent you, didn’t she?”

“Where is she? I need to talk to her.”

My mom put both hands on her hips.

“You mailed the invitation to my house. What did you think I was going to do, miss the show?”

“My daughter isn’t a toy you get to throw away and pick back up whenever it’s convenient.”

“Why don’t you go check on that baby of yours. Oh, wait. It’s not yours, is it? Good luck with that.”

She’d never spoken to him like this before. Not once.

Callum just stood there. He had nothing.

My mom let out a dry laugh.

“What, cat got your tongue? Or did you actually come here with a speech prepared?”

“Let me guess. You mixed them up because of the amnesia, but Maren was always the one you really loved. Is that the line?”

“Do you honestly think we’re that stupid?”

The look on his face said it all.

My mom shoved him back from the doorway.

“Get out! Get out of my home right now!”

That’s when my dad came up the hallway, groceries in hand.

He dropped the bags.

He grabbed Callum by the shoulder and punched him square in the jaw.

“You son of a bitch. You’ve got some nerve showing your face here.”

“I should knock you out cold right now.”

Callum didn’t swing back. He just stood there, taking it.

“Tessa lied to me.”

“Just let me explain. That’s all I’m asking.”

I was starting to worry my dad was actually going to hurt him.

“Dad, stop.”

“Call security and have them get him out of here.”

“The neighbors are going to start talking.”

Half the building had met him when we were still together.

Callum lunged forward and grabbed my mom’s phone out of her hand.

“Maren, just hear me out…”

I looked at him through the screen. My face gave him nothing.

“Save it.”

“Maybe Tessa told you things that weren’t true.”

“But every decision you made was yours.”

“You faked the amnesia. You kissed her in front of me. You slept with her. And then you kicked me out of my own home.”

“This is the last time you show up at my parents’ door.”

“If it happens again, you and I are going to have a real problem.”

His own words, returned to sender.

The day I walked out of that apartment, I made myself a promise.

No matter what he said, no matter how he begged, I would never take him back.

I could cry. I could break. But I would never bend for him again.
