HURRICANE! She Begged My Brother to Save Her—This Time, I Said No Chapter 04
“There has to be some misunderstanding!”
“Tyler has always been a good, obedient kid. He would never do something like this!”
One of the men who had been about to hit Tyler gave a cold laugh.
“Of course you’d deny it. He’s your son.”
Dad flushed with panic.
“No! We have security cameras outside the house. The footage will show whether Tyler ever left last night!”
Chloe immediately shrieked back.
“What good is footage from your own house?”
“How do we know you didn’t tamper with it?”
“You installed the cameras yourselves. It would be easy for you to alter the footage.”
Everyone around us began talking over one another.
“Security footage from your own house proves nothing. You could edit it however you wanted.”
“No wonder they’re so arrogant. They had fake evidence ready from the start. How vicious.”
Mom trembled with anger.
“You have no evidence. You’re calling my son guilty based on nothing but her word. That’s slander!”
At that, Chloe suddenly grabbed the guardrail and pulled herself to her feet.
Her eyes were red, and hatred blazed in them.
“Mrs. Bennett, are you saying I sacrificed my own innocence just to frame your son?”
“Yes, your family has money. I’m just an ordinary woman. I can’t possibly stand up to people like you.”
“But even if it costs me my life, I’ll make sure I get justice today!”
Marcus took two frightened steps forward.
“Chloe, don’t do anything reckless!”
“Whatever you want, just say it. We can talk this through!”
Chloe bit her lip, her voice resolute.
“I want $1 million!”
“They didn’t just violate me. They humiliated me as a person!”
“Pay me $1 million, and I’ll bear the trauma myself. Then we settle this privately.”
After speaking, she edged half a step closer to the drop.
“Otherwise, I’ll jump right now and die in front of all of you!”
Half her body leaned over the edge.
The crowd erupted in panic.
“Oh my God! She’s really going to jump!”
“The Bennetts can afford it! Just pay her before this turns deadly!”
“Exactly! What matters more, money or a human life?”
Marcus turned toward me and shouted,
“Natalie, a life is at stake here!”
“Just agree to what she wants for now. A million dollars is nothing to your family. Don’t let this get completely out of control.”
Chloe swung one leg over the guardrail and teetered at the edge.
“Even if I go to hell, I’ll curse Tyler for the rest of his life!”
“I’ll make sure that rapist… that murderer… never has a single peaceful day again!”
Madness filled her eyes.
She looked like a helpless woman who had been driven into a corner.
Mom and Dad were terrified.
“Honey, don’t jump!”
“We’ll pay! We’ll pay you! Just don’t do anything rash!”
With trembling hands, Dad pulled out his checkbook.
I knew he wanted to pull Chloe back from the edge first, then investigate what had really happened.
But he didn’t understand that once the money changed hands…
the truth would no longer matter.
Dad gripped his pen, about to write down the amount.
An uncontrollable gleam of excitement flashed in Chloe’s eyes.
“Wait.”
I reached out and stopped Dad’s pen.
Under everyone’s stunned gaze, I turned and faced Chloe.
“Chloe, I’m going to ask you one last time.”
“Are you absolutely certain Tyler was the man who came to pick you up last night?”
Chloe stared fixedly at the check.
She nodded forcefully.
“I’m certain!”
“I’d recognize him even if he were burned to ashes.”
I nodded and took out my phone.
“Fine. If you’re that certain, I’ll give you what you want.”
Chloe swallowed.
Her voice carried barely contained impatience.
“A bank transfer? Fine!”
“But I want the full $1 million.”
“Not one penny less.”
