Is This A Joke? My Whole Pack Betrayed Me On The Day I Became Luna Chapter 04

At dawn, the door was kicked open.

My father Garrick burst in and slapped me across the face.

My mother Elspeth threw her phone at me.

On the screen was Vesper’s final video on PackNet before she tried to slit her wrist with a silver blade.

She was crying, shaking violently.

“Celine leaked my private messages with Damon to gossip accounts. She paid people to call me a homewrecker. She even reported my PackNet account.”

“It’s all my fault.”

“I shouldn’t have joked with her. I shouldn’t have hoped she’d forgive me.”

I had no idea what private messages she was talking about.

But after listening to her tearful confession, everyone was convinced I’d orchestrated the harassment on PackNet.

I had pushed her to the brink.

My mother pointed at me and screamed.

“Celine, are you happy now?”

“Vesper tried to kill herself last night! She’s in the pack medical center, fighting for her life!”

In her suicide note, Vesper was full of apologies to me.

She said she’d only wanted to make everyone happy, but she’d ruined my Mate Ceremony.

Since I wouldn’t forgive her, she had no choice but to pay with her life.

Damon grabbed my wrist, his eyes filled with nothing but disgust.

“It was just a video. You had to force her to delete it and destroy her career.”

“If she dies, you’ll never have peace for the rest of your life!”

I was still running a fever. Before I could explain, they dragged me to the pack medical center.

Vesper was already awake.

When my parents and Damon stepped outside to talk to the doctor, she suddenly opened her eyes.

“You loved Damon for seven years. You spent a whole year planning your Mate Ceremony. And what difference did it make?”

“All I had to say was that I wanted to go to an island, and he was willing to abandon his Luna and go with me.”

“Even your parents think I’m more their daughter than you are.”

I was burning with rage, trembling all over.

“So those messages and the harassment on PackNet… You set me up on purpose?”

Footsteps sounded outside.

The smugness on Vesper’s face vanished instantly.

She grabbed my wrist and screamed.

“Celine, don’t pull out my IV!!”

“I already apologized to you! Why won’t you leave me alone?”

Damon rushed in and yanked me away.

“Celine, are you insane?”

“It wasn’t me, she—”

I tried to explain, but my father shoved me from behind.

“Get out! Stop upsetting Vesper!”

I stumbled and fell hard.

Agony shot through my entire body.

Warm liquid trickled down my legs.

My period hadn’t come this month.

I’d assumed it was because of the Mate Ceremony.

The stress. The endless preparations.

But in that moment, a terrible suspicion crept into my mind.

I desperately grabbed Damon’s sleeve.

“Damon, my stomach hurts.”

“I missed my period this month. I think I might be—”

Before I could finish, Vesper let out a feeble whimper from her bed.

“Damon…”

Damon immediately pulled his hand away and rushed to her side.

My parents crowded around her too.

My mother heard my voice but didn’t even turn around.

“Vesper just woke up. Don’t start competing for attention right now!”

Everyone surrounded her to comfort her.

My vision went dark, and I collapsed.

When I woke up, a doctor was standing by my bed.

“You were six weeks pregnant.”

“But the pup didn’t survive.”

I froze, unable to process his words. But the pain—the kind that felt like my soul was shattering—kept spreading through my chest.

It wasn’t until the doctor left that I slowly raised my hand and placed it over my flat, empty belly.

There had been a pup here, connected to me by blood.

And I hadn’t even known it existed. I never had a chance to protect it.

In that moment, the tears I’d held back for so long finally spilled over, blurring my vision without warning.

I curled up on the hospital bed.

I trembled violently, sobbing uncontrollably.

But no one came through the door.

My parents were with Vesper.

Damon hadn’t come looking for me either.

As if, at this moment, the pack bond, the mate bond—all of it had stopped working.

The only message on my phone was from him, sent half an hour ago.

[Vesper is awake.]

[Come apologize to her when you’re feeling better.]

I stared at those words for a long time.

Then I got out of bed.

I handled my own discharge.

I went back to the Pack House to get my luggage.

Before I left, I placed the miscarriage report and the Mate Ceremony cancellation notice side by side on the dining table. Then I turned and headed to the airport.

Thirteen hours later, my plane landed in a foreign land.

Meanwhile, Damon never got a reply from me.

At first, he thought I was just throwing a tantrum. But after a dozen unanswered calls, he couldn’t even catch my scent anymore.

His wolf was restless and agitated, urging him: “Go find our mate! I can’t feel her anymore!”

At the same time, the pain in his heart told him something was terribly wrong.

He practically ran back to the Pack House.

The house was empty. My scent had vanished completely.

Only two sheets of paper were pressed flat on the dining table.

One was the Mate Ceremony cancellation notice.

The other was the miscarriage report.

[Six weeks gestation. Miscarriage due to external trauma.]

Damon stared at the words.

And then, he couldn’t breathe.
