My Husband Realized He Loved Me After I Stopped Loving Him Chapter 08
He still didn’t leave Theo alone.Â
When the kidnapping call came, my mind wentÂ
completely blank.Â
The caller only gave an address and said, “comeÂ
alone,” then hung up.Â
I recognized that address. It was where Grant hadÂ
been staying.Â
I went straight there, armed.Â
The moment the door opened, I fired two shots.Â
The bullets grazed his ear and buried themselvesÂ
in the wall behind him, fragments scattering.Â
“Where is he?” I forced the words out through myÂ
teeth. “Where’s Theo?”Â
His bodyguards surged forward instantly–aÂ
dozen or more, closing into a half–circle.Â
Grant lifted a hand, and they backed off.Â
He just looked at me. Said nothing.Â
I stormed forward, grabbed his collar, and pressedÂ
the gun under his chin.Â
“I asked you where he is!”Â
“Vivian.” He tugged his lips into a shape almostÂ
like a smile. “What if I told you it wasn’t me?”Â
“Don’t you dare play that game with me, GrantÂ
Ashworth! I know you!”Â
My hand was shaking, and the barrel shook with it.Â
“Whatever you have against me, come at me directly! We’re about to get married–why do thisÂ
now!”Â
“If anything happens to him, do you really think I’llÂ
“You’ll what?” He cut me off, voice suddenly low.Â
“Shoot me again?”Â
He reached out and closed his hand over mine onÂ
the gun, steadying it against his own chin.Â
“Go ahead. Pull the trigger.”Â
I tried to yank my hand back. He only held tighter.Â
He tugged his mouth into something like a smile.Â
“Vivian. I remember–you and I never used to pointÂ
weapons at each other.”Â
I wrenched my hand free and stepped back.Â
He watched me retreat, and something in his eyesÂ
dimmed.Â
“I’m not the one who hurt him. But I can help youÂ
save him.”Â
He paused. “Though if I save him…”Â
He laughed once, low, his dark eyes fixed on meÂ
without blinking.Â
“What if it costs me my life?”Â
He took a step closer, until the gun pressedÂ
against his chest again.Â
“Which would you choose?”Â
“What do you mean?”Â
“Oh, they want my life in exchange for his.”Â
He looked down into my eyes. “So it’s up to you.Â
Does he die, or do I?”Â
My knuckles went white around the gun.Â
In the silence that stretched a few seconds long, I watched the light in his eyes dim, bit by bit.Â
“…Please.” My voice was shaking, my eyesÂ
burning.Â
“Grant. Please save him.”Â
He swayed slightly at those words.Â
After a moment, he laughed and let his mouthÂ
curve up. “Alright.”Â
“I’ve never said no to you anyway.”Â
He turned and walked toward the door.Â
As he passed me, I caught the red rimming his eyes, and the tight press of his lips.
