My Sister’s ‘Secret Boyfriend’ Was My Fiance Chapter 07
“I don’t know where she went either. Graham, do you think Nora’s angry with us?” Lila asked through her tears.
Graham forced himself to calm down.
Of course. Nora was only angry.
She was angry about what had happened between him and Lila.
They had crossed a line. Even he could admit that.
For once, Graham felt a trace of regret. He decided he would apologize once Nora had cooled off.
“Don’t blame yourself,” he told Lila. “Everything will be fine once she’s not angry anymore.”
That was what he truly believed.
He knew Nora. There was no way she would actually leave him.
All he had to do was wait for her anger to pass.
But one week turned into another, and still there was no word from Nora.
“Graham, Nora still hasn’t contacted you?” Lila asked quietly.
Graham shook his head.
He tried to dismiss it. “She probably hasn’t cooled off yet.”
Despite what he said, an inexplicable uneasiness had begun to settle over him.
—
Still, he kept telling himself that Nora was merely angry.
Nothing serious would happen.
“I know her,” Graham said.
He had been staying at Lila’s place the entire time.
Lila looked at him, hesitating before she asked, “Graham, what if Nora never contacts you again?”
“Impossible,” he answered without thinking.
“She’s just angry right now. We were the ones who crossed the line, so of course she’s upset.”
Disappointment flickered in Lila’s eyes.
Still unwilling to let the subject drop, she said, “But Nora already sold the condo.”
Something about her expression struck Graham as strange.
It seemed as though she did not want him and Nora to reconcile at all.
“Maybe she really does want to break up,” Lila said.
“Lila.” Graham looked at her. “Nora isn’t going to break up with me.”
“But what if she does?” Lila pressed.
What if she did?
Graham had never seriously considered that Nora might truly leave him.
—
More accurately, he did not believe she ever would.
He knew Nora.
She had waited an entire year for him. How could she possibly walk away now?
Graham shook his head. “She won’t.”
Lila’s gaze dimmed.
He sounded so certain, but uneasiness continued to gnaw at him.
Suddenly, he was no longer quite as sure.
Another two days passed, then three. By the two-week mark, Nora still had not contacted him.
That was when Graham truly panicked.
He called and texted her obsessively, but none of the calls went through, and none of his texts ever showed as delivered.
It had been over a month since Nora blocked him.
What was he supposed to do?
What could he possibly do?
Graham’s mind went blank.
It finally occurred to him to call Nora’s friends. Maybe one of them knew where she was.
But none of them had any news about her.
—
He rushed to Nora’s office, only to learn that she had resigned some time ago.
Then Graham drove back to the condo he had bought for them to live in after the wedding, clinging to the faint hope that perhaps Nora had never actually sold it. Maybe she had only put it on the market because she was angry.
He stood outside the door for a while before finally knocking.
But Nora was not the one who answered.
It was a man.
