Silent Revenge of a Hidden Heiress Chapter 06
The next day was bright and sunny.Â
When I got to the campus track to oversee the setup, Nathan and Sheryl’s kissing booth was. already fully built.Â
A crowd had gathered around it taking photos, and it looked like it was already pretty popular.Â
I paid no mind to it and focused on checking the details of my booth.Â
Then I heard Sheryl’s voice behind me. “Elaine, you’re back from sick leave already?”Â
I turned around. Nathan and Sheryl were walkingÂ
side by side.Â
Nathan was in a prince costume, Sheryl in aÂ
princess gown–they looked so perfect together itÂ
almost hurt to look at.Â
I was just in a plain white tee and jeans, asÂ
unremarkable as a background NPC.Â
Sheryl laughed and waved at people around her,Â
but Nathan just scowled and stared daggers atÂ
- me.Â
People nearby whispered excitedly, “They look soÂ
good together! Perfect match!”Â
When Sheryl noticed my gaze, she hurried toÂ
explain.Â
“Elaine, this is just cosplay! We’re wearing it toÂ
hype up the event, don’t listen to their stupidÂ
teasing, don’t overthink it!”Â
I shrugged and gave her a fake smile. “I’m notÂ
overthinking it. You two do make a great couple.Â
And for the record, Nathan and I already broke up.”Â
Nathan’s frown deepened.Â
“Elaine, don’t-”Â
I cut him off politely. “I’m not affiliated with theÂ
student council anymore. Could you guys pleaseÂ
step aside? You’re blocking my team from settingÂ
up.”Â
Sheryl looked shocked. “Setting up what? The onlyÂ
fundraiser on campus today is ours!”Â
I said calmly, “Mine, too.”Â
Nathan stared for a second, then laughed inÂ
disbelief. “Elaine, is this really necessary? Just because of our kissing booth, you’re mad enoughÂ
to throw your own fundraiser to compete with me?Â
“I’ll give you credit for pulling people to help, but you barely have any friends here, and you’re not even on student council anymore. Do you really think you can pull this off alone?”Â
I looked at his dismissive, skeptical face and spoke evenly, “Don’t worry your pretty prince head about it. Why don’t you go get ready to sit in your booth and hand out kisses?”Â
My words dripped with sarcasm. Nathan turnedÂ
pale with rage, huffed, and stormed off.Â
Sheryl didn’t leave right away.Â
She stepped closer, finally dropping the polite actÂ
and letting her hostility show.Â
“Elaine, why are you doing this? Nathan already can’t stand you. If you swallowed your pride and begged me, I could put in a good word for you andÂ
get you back on the council.Â
“You don’t actually think throwing your own littleÂ
fundraiser is going to hurt us, do you?”Â
I stayed calm, bent down to grab a water bottle from a box on the ground, twisted off the cap, and poured the whole thing right at her feet.Â
The fancy lace hem of her gown got soakedÂ
instantly.Â
Sheryl’s face twisted with rage, and she stormedÂ
off yelling.Â
My booth slowly took shape, and the track gotÂ
busier and busier.Â
Plenty of people noticed our banner and wanderedÂ
over in small groups to learn more.Â
Right after I finished explaining the fundraiser toÂ
one student, my roommates showed up.Â
I hadn’t told them about it ahead of time. I’d onlyÂ
mentioned the fundraiser and our breakup in theÂ
dorm group chat that morning.Â
But my roommates were total ride–or–die–they allÂ
said they’d come to support me.Â
They also admitted they’d wanted to rant aboutÂ
Nathan and Sheryl for ages.Â
They just didn’t say anything because they didn’tÂ
want to overstep while Nathan and I were still dating.Â
It was kind of funny.Â
Everyone else could see what was going on.Â
And here I was, stupidly playing the sidekick toÂ
their drama for so long.
