The Alpha Family’s Lie Chapter 02

The Alpha Family’s Lie Chapter 02

Finally, I asked! My voice came out hoarse and unsteady. The moment the words left my mouth, all I felt was bitterness and a crushing sense of suffocation.

I couldn’t accept being labeled a spendthrift. It was like calling me a frivolous, vain she-wolf!

I was the Alpha Princess, but I never cared for luxury. Whether it was clothes or jewelry, nothing cost over a few thousand dollars.

In the entire elite werewolf circle, I stood out as painfully plain, an outright anomaly.

My brother stiffened.

“How could you ask that? You’re better now.”

“What do you mean ‘now’? What about before?” I pressed on relentlessly.

He frowned.

“When our parents were alive, you really didn’t know how to save.”

“We weren’t born Alpha. Our parents started as Gammas. They both worked hard on the plantation, and later they owned a small piece of land, a small plantation. They led a few Omegas through tough times to build a business.”

“After that, they founded a company. Many wolves were willing to follow them. On an empty stretch of land in the Werewolf Continent, our parents established the Shadowfen Pack.”

“Every penny I spent, including my own expenses, was carefully considered.”

“But every year on your birthday, you pressured them into buying you outrageously expensive gifts. Did you ever stop to think about that?”

Emotionally charged, I took steps forward.

“But from the moment I was born, I was the Alpha’s Princess. I only asked for a phone like everyone else had. How did that make me wasteful??”

“What’s the point of earning money then?” His face darkened.

“Listen to yourself. It’s just a phone. Any kind would do.”

“You’re vain, always comparing yourself to those socialites, so you demand this and that.”

“These past five years with nothing, haven’t you been doing just fine?”

I stared at him in disbelief, my blood running cold.

In his eyes, this counted as doing well?

I went to play corpses every day, begging directors for extra scenes to earn an extra two hundred dollars.

Sometimes in mud, sometimes in filthy ditches. I would lie there for over ten hours without moving.

My old rival, Zoey Patterson, took advantage of my downfall to bully me whenever she could.

And I couldn’t even fight back.

Even so, I still worried about my brother. To ease his burden, I signed up as a drug trial participant. To this day, I don’t know what state my body is in.

Was that really “doing well”?

My stomach twisted in pain again. Hazily, I recalled Zoey’s words.

“You brought this on yourself, idiot.”

“I’ll follow you wherever you go. Whatever production you’re in, I’ll be there. My father has plenty of money. He can just invest to get me in.”

“For the next five years, I’ll make your life a living hell.”

I shuddered suddenly, every hair on my body standing on end.

Five years. Why exactly five years?

Did Zoey know something too?

Instinct told me my brother was hiding more from me.

So I clenched my fists, suppressing the urge to confront him, and obediently said, “Okay, I’ll do better.”

My brother put down the dinner and patted my head approvingly.

“That’s better. Eat by yourself later. I need to go to work.”

I nodded.

After eating, my brother left for work.

I put on a mask and hat and secretly followed him.

After leaving the old district where we lived, he made a call by the roadside.

Within minutes, a black Maybach pulled up in front of him.

Watching him swing his long legs into the car, I quickly hailed a taxi to follow.

Half an hour later, he entered an upscale restaurant.

I went in five minutes later and sat at a table behind him.

Too nervous to look up, I didn’t see who was across from him.

But when I heard the other person’s voice, I froze stiff.

“Jakub, I followed your orders and tormented Anya hard. She’s been behaving well lately!”

It was Zoey!

“Fine. Only by suffering outside will Anya learn that money isn’t easy to come by.”

My brother’s tone was flat, as if discussing the most normal thing.

“As repayment, I’ll patronize your Nightfall Pack’s business.”

“We can’t let Anya know about this yet. My parents will return after Christmas, and I’ll tell them then.”

My breath hitched, my heart nearly stopping.

A waiter came to ask for my order. I didn’t dare make a sound.

Trembling, I pointed randomly at the menu. Then gestured for him to leave quickly, lest my brother notice me.

Zoey’s voice was sickeningly sweet.

“Jakub, you told Anya you were working as a haunted house tester in human territory, but you actually detoured back to the Alpha’s villa every day. Doesn’t it ever get exhausting?”

“Why didn’t you just go on vacation with the Alpha and Luna back then?”
