The Alpha Family’s Lie Chapter 03
Another wave of shock slammed into my chest.
So, even my brother’s story about testing haunted houses was a lie.
All this time, without my knowledge, he had been returning to our old villa, sleeping on that plush mattress.
Was I the only one who suffered over these five years?
My brother sighed.
“Anya is my sister. I couldn’t leave her alone.”
“Besides, our company headquarters have moved to Washington, but we’ll return to Vancouver eventually.”
He sounded wistful.
“The five-year punishment we agreed on passed in the blink of an eye. Time flies.”
Flies? I let out a bitter laugh inside.
For me, every single day of those five years was pure torture.
Playing corpses wasn’t easy.
Under Zoey’s orders, I was always assigned the dirtiest, most exhausting spots.
No matter the wind or rain, I couldn’t move a muscle.
Werewolves couldn’t stay long in human territory. Over time, my wolf grew weak, often falling into chaos. My heat cycles and periods became irregular.
And in their eyes, it was just… punishment.
How ridiculous…
“Zoey, this is for you. Thank you for your hard work with Anya these five years.”
The conversation across the table continued.
My brother handed Zoey an exquisite gift box.
Zoey gasped as she opened it.
“What a stunning diamond necklace!”
My heart dropped straight into hell.
That was the very necklace I begged our parents to buy me five years ago.
They refused then, saying it was too expensive.
I hadn’t insisted and eventually forgot about it.
Now it seemed this necklace was the spark that ignited my five-year punishment.
But why?
My Alpha parents were wealthy. Why was wanting a necklace worth five years of torment?
Why could Zoey, from a less affluent family, get whatever she wanted so easily?
Was I disobedient? Ungrateful?
I’d always been well-behaved, never defied them.
Why did I deserve this?
Totally losing emotional control, I couldn’t hold back any longer.
I slammed my hands on the table and shot to my feet.
The entire restaurant turned to stare.
My brother spun around, his face instantly pale.
“Anya? What are you doing here?”
“Funny? Was it fun deceiving me for five years?”
I tore off my hat and scarf, lunging forward to grab his sleeve.
“Since when was I someone who loved wasting money? Why did you all torment me like this!”
Panic flashed in his eyes. He glanced around, his expression strained as he gripped my arm.
“It’s crowded here. Let’s talk outside.”
“You’re the one who should be ashamed!”
My eyes burned red as I shook off his hand, screaming hysterically.
“You and our parents conspired to lie to me! Lied about the Pack going bankrupt, about debts, and about you testing haunted houses!”
“But the truth? They’re vacationing in Hawaii! You return to the Alpha villa every night! I was the only one suffering from start to finish!”
My composure shattered completely, tears flooding out.
“Jakub, why? Just tell me why!”
“Please tell me! The Petrova family has billions! All I asked for was a new phone on my birthday! What did I do wrong!”
His face darkened.
“No wonder you questioned me this afternoon. You overheard my call with our parents.”
He seized my wrist again.
This time, his grip was iron-tight as he tried to drag me out of the restaurant.
A waiter suddenly rushed over, stopping me.
“Ma’am, you haven’t paid! Your bill is five thousand dollars!”
My brother froze, his brow furrowing.
“Why would you order such an expensive set? Do you have any idea how hard money is to earn?”
Every eye in the room burned into me.
He deliberately delayed, letting the silence stretch.
Only when I stood pale and trembling did he finally swipe his card to pay.
Outside, Zoey chimed in with feigned concern.
“Anya, your parents and brother meant well. They were trying to teach you a lesson. Don’t be ungrateful!”
