The Alpha Family’s Lie Chapter 06

The Alpha Family’s Lie Chapter 06

The whole family froze. My mother’s lips trembled, tears falling like rain.

“You did nothing wrong. Nothing wrong, Anya. Your father and I… we failed you.”

Her voice was hoarse, shoulders shaking with sobs.

“You were right. We’re wrong.”

“Money is meant to be used. It isn’t everything. It’s just a tool. You were already so sensible, yet we failed to correct our own mistakes. The fault was ours.”

I remained silent. The mockery in my eyes only deepened.

My brother stepped closer, eyes red-rimmed, trying to explain.

“Anya… last year, I was just complaining casually. I never imagined you’d actually volunteer for drug trials.”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have hit you today. I misunderstood you.”

As he spoke, he suddenly raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face, twice.

“It’s all my fault. I’m a bastard to you. I deserve this.”

My father, too, walked heavily to my bedside and bowed his head.

“This has nothing to do with either of them. It’s all my fault.”

“I made the decision. I’m the one who hurt Anya.”

Hearing their words, I couldn’t help but let out a cold, bitter laugh.

Now, they finally admitted they were wrong.

But if I hadn’t gotten sick, would they have remained so stubborn forever?

The atmosphere in the room was thick with grief and awkwardness.

I stayed silent, as if hearing nothing.

After a while, Jakub asked the doctor in a raspy voice, “Can my sister’s illness be cured?”

The doctor shook his head.

“In my opinion… it will be very difficult.”

“Even if her condition stabilizes, she’ll need lifelong medication.”

“No!”

My mother could hold back no longer. She burst into tears, collapsing over me, sobbing uncontrollably.

“How could this happen? What did I do wrong?”

“Anya, I caused all of this… I caused it… I should pay with my life…”

“Luna, please calm down,” the doctor reminded her gently. “Anya needs rest.”

“Let’s handle the admission procedures first. Who will come with me to pay the deposit?”

“I will.” Jakub’s voice was hoarse as he moved toward the door.

I called him back.

“Forget it. I don’t want to be hospitalized.”

He turned, bewildered.

I smiled faintly. “I thought my punishment was still ongoing?”

“By your rules, you’re not allowed to spend money on me.”

Guilt flooded his eyes.

“Anya, don’t be angry. We were truly wrong before. We’ll change.”

“From now on, spend however you want. Whatever you desire, we’ll give it to you.”

“Yes, yes,” my mother blurted, as if suddenly remembering something.

“Everything you ever wanted before, we’ll buy it for you now!”

She grabbed my father and dragged him out of the room, giving him no chance to argue.

Jakub sat by my bedside. His gaze lingered on my pale face; his tone laced with pained tenderness.

“Anya, I know you’ve suffered greatly. From now on, Mom, Dad, and I, we won’t be so stubborn anymore.”

“Don’t worry about your illness. Our family has more than enough money. I’ll find you the best doctors, the best medicine.”

“Why now?” I asked with a careless smile.

“You only care because I’m sick. What if I weren’t?”

“How long did you plan to punish me?”

“We never imagined you’d go this far for the family…” His voice cracked. “Everything we did these five years was for your future.”

“We feared spoiling you, that you wouldn’t be able to endure hardship later.”

“You know,” I said softly, “our family has more money than we could ever spend.”

A sting hit my nose, tears slipping from the corners of my eyes.

“Because Mom and Dad struggled when they were young, you wanted me to be frugal.”

“But when have I ever wasted money?”

“Among our circle, I was the most frugal, wasn’t I?”

“Anya,” my brother murmured, “what gift would you like? I’ll buy it for you, okay?”
