The Alpha Family’s Lie Chapter 05
My mind went blank, ears ringing.
What he said barely registered.
Standing there for a long moment, I finally nodded in resignation.
“Give me back the one hundred and thirty thousand dollars I gave you.”
That money was earned with my life.
He shot me a disdainful look and made a call.
Soon, someone brought in my bag of cash.
I wiped my tears, hoisted the money onto my shoulder, and turned to leave.
My mother started to speak as she watched my retreating figure, but my father stopped her.
“Let her go. See where she ends up!”
I closed the door behind me and carried the money back to my old neighborhood.
As I took out my key to unlock the door, someone grabbed my wrist.
“Miss, this place has been sold. You can’t go in.”
“Was it sold to Jakub Petrova?”
I didn’t even look up.
—
The man replied, “Yes, how did you know?”
I let out a bitter laugh and walked away with the money.
After just a few steps, that stabbing pain in my stomach struck again.
I went to the nearest hospital.
While waiting for my results, I went to pay the fee.
But moments after handing over the cash, security guards pinned me down.
My mind was foggy, and I had no strength to resist.
Amid the chaos, I heard them shouting about “counterfeit bills” and “calling the police.”
Soon, Pack Police arrived.
The lead officer frowned at me.
“Ma’am, this money is counterfeit. Where did you get it?”
I was stunned. Frantically, I pulled a contract from my pocket and handed it to him.
“I didn’t know! I earned this as a drug trial participant!”
“Sir, I had nothing to do with this!”
He scanned the contract, his frown deepening.
“You were likely scammed. This company is a Rogue crime syndicate.”
—
“Did they draw your blood?”
My pupils shrank. I nodded mechanically.
The officer sighed.
“The drugs were fine, but the needles…”
He couldn’t bring himself to finish.
A dark premonition washed over me.
Just then, my test results arrived.
The doctor handed them to the officer.
“It’s Lunar Eclipse Blood Wasting. It’s a targeted revenge by Rogues against Pack wolves. Infected werewolves’ blood turns black, and their hematopoietic function severely deteriorates. Those Rogues are getting bolder!”
Gag…
I couldn’t hold on any longer. Black blood gushed from my mouth as I collapsed, unconscious.
Before darkness took me, I heard the Pack Police shout.
“Contact her family! Now!”
By the time my parents and brother arrived, I was awake.
Lying on the hospital bed, I stared blankly at the ceiling.
All three looked travel-weary. After speaking with the police, their faces paled with disbelief.
—
The doctor spoke gently.
“With a stronger immune system, the virus on the needle wouldn’t have infected her.”
“But her body lacked too much. She’s too weak. That’s why she developed the blood disease.”
My brother’s face turned ghostly white.
“So Anya’s blood wasn’t fake…”
My mother rushed to my bedside, clutching my hand.
“Anya, why did you become a drug trial participant? If you hadn’t…”
“If I hadn’t, how would we pay off the family’s debts?”
I looked at her with bitter mockery.
“Jakub said he tested haunted houses, but every night he slept in the Alpha villa.”
“Only at Christmas could we be together.”
“Last year, I bought a Christmas feast with money I earned scavenging. He complained it was depressing.”
“I just wanted him to have a debt-free Christmas. That’s why I volunteered for the drug trials.”
“Mom, did I do wrong again?”
