They Made Me Confess To A Bricklayer, Then I Saw The Comments Chapter 10

Chloe got smarter about it this time.

She didn’t come after me directly. Instead, she “accidentally” made sure my mom saw a few things.

It started with a photo. Rowan sitting with a girl at a café.

The angle did all the work. It made them look intimate.

My mom threw the phone down in front of me. “Who is this?”

One look, and I recognized her. “His business partner.”

“Since when do business partners sit that close?”

“Mom, it’s the angle.”

“The angle?” My mom scoffed.

“Serena, are you blind? He’s with you, and he’s getting cozy with some other girl behind your back?”

[Chloe’s move is DIRTY.]

[Is the photo edited?? No, but that angle is doing all the lying.]

[The second male lead is literally just talking business with his partner omg.]

I took a breath. “Mom, are you going to trust me or trust some random picture?”

My mom didn’t answer. She just swiped to the next screenshot.

It was Rowan’s bank records. He’d transferred half a million dollars to a single account.

“Who did he send that to? Do you have any idea who he’s spending money on behind your back?”

I leaned in. The account note read “Ms. Hayes.”

[That’s his sister, Ms. Hayes. She’s sick and needs money for treatment.]

[Chloe actually dug up his bank records?? That’s disgusting.]

“Mom, that’s his sister. She’s sick. The half million was for her surgery.”

My mom went quiet. “How do you know that?”

“Because he told me.”

My mom stared at me for a long moment, then let out a sigh.

“Serena, does it really have to be him?”

I met her eyes and nodded.

“Mom, I’m not a kid anymore. I know what I’m doing.”

“He’s not perfect. He doesn’t come from money, he’s been insecure, and he’s got plenty of flaws.”

“But he’s good to me. Really, truly good.”

“That’s enough.”

[The character development is real.]

My mom was quiet for a long time.

Then she picked up her phone and deleted the photos.

“Fine. It’s your life. Your call.”

“But if he hurts you, he’ll have to answer to me.”

I threw my arms around her. “Thank you, Mom.”

That night, I went to see Rowan.

He was working late at the office. When I walked in, surprise flickered across his face.

“What are you doing here?”

“I missed you.”

His ears turned red again.

I sat across from him and told him what Chloe had pulled.

When I finished, he went quiet for a few seconds.

“I’ll take care of it.”

“How?”

“By the time I’m done, she’ll be too busy dealing with her own mess to come after you again.”

I studied his face. “What are you planning?”

He didn’t answer. He just reached over and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

Not long after, Chloe’s family business ran into serious trouble.

A major client they’d worked with for years pulled out overnight, citing quality problems in a project Mr. Bennett had handled.

The reader feed said Rowan was behind it. When I asked, he didn’t confirm or deny.

“I just sent a message. If you come after my people, there are consequences.”

I looked at him, my chest tightening.

“Rowan, did you see all of this coming?”

He looked at me. “No.”

“The only thing I didn’t see coming was you.”

“What?”

“I didn’t think you’d choose me in this life.”

His voice was barely there when he said it.

I looked into his eyes, and it clicked.

All this time, he’d believed I chose him because the comments showed me his future. That I’d picked the future billionaire, not the man.

I took a breath.

“Rowan, listen to me.”

“I didn’t choose you because of what you’ll become. Not because you’d help me, and not because I owed you anything.”

“I chose you because of the way you looked that day, walking back from the job site with cement dust on your jeans, your ears red, too scared to even look at me.”

“Because you showed up outside my classroom every single morning. Because you were terrified out of your mind, and you still said okay.”

“I chose you. The person. Not the title you’ll hold someday.”

He went still. Then his head dropped, and his shoulders started to shake.

[She made him cry oh my god.]

[The drama queen’s speech is DESTROYING ME!! I ship them so hard.]

I crossed the room and wrapped my arms around him.

“Rowan, I love you.”

“It has nothing to do with any past life.”

“This life is ours. That’s all.”

He pulled me in so tight I couldn’t breathe, and when he spoke, his voice was muffled against me.

“Serena, do you know how unfair you’re being right now?”

“Yeah?”

“You just made me cry.”

I smiled, and my own tears spilled over.

[AHHHHHHH.]

[I’m literally sobbing. This is too sweet.]

[FINALE COMPLETE. I was here!!]
