He Left Me for My Best Friend Chapter 10

He Left Me for My Best Friend Chapter 10

Noah asked me out again.

Going out with him was easy.

I never had to think about where we should go.

He always planned everything from start to finish.

Honestly,

it was much easier than going out with Evan.

Noah was the son of my mom’s coworker.

I heard his work had something to do with music.

And he had a really nice voice.

I asked him to sing a song for me at Riverside Park,

a place I often visited.

Noah didn’t hesitate.

He simply smiled

and started singing softly.

Coincidentally,

it was the same song I used to beg Evan to sing for me.

After Noah finished,

his eyes landed on someone behind me.

“Your friend?”

he asked.

I turned around.

It was Evan.

Suddenly,

I remembered.

Riverside Park was also where Evan and I used to come when we were kids.

I wanted to explain.

I wanted to tell him Evan was just my old neighbor’s son.

But before I could say anything,

Evan’s fist had already landed on Noah’s face.

“What the hell are you doing?!”

I pulled Noah back.

Then I turned around and frowned at Evan.

“Did you seriously hit your head so hard that you lost your mind?!”

Evan’s breathing was uneven.

He stepped forward.

And the next second,

Noah punched him.

Noah wiped the corner of his mouth.

“Now we’re even.”

I took out my handkerchief

and handed it to him.

Evan watched us.

A bitter feeling rose in his chest.

“He’s violent.”

“This is who you picked?”

“He wasn’t hitting me.”

“He was hitting you.”

I answered without hesitation.

Evan froze.

Then he remembered the slap he gave me at the hospital.

Suddenly,

he raised his hand.

And slapped himself.

Once.

Then again.

I watched him.

But I felt nothing.

I turned around

and left with Noah.

After that,

I rarely heard anything about Evan.

Two years later,

my mom sent a wedding invitation to Linda.

That was when I found out…

Evan’s company had expanded into other cities.

He was always busy.

And he had suffered from stomach bleeding.

Whenever he had free time,

he spent it recovering.

Not just me.

Even Linda hadn’t seen Evan for two years.

My mom casually mentioned Chloe too.

A year earlier,

Chloe had gotten into a car accident.

She suffered permanent leg disability.

And she developed depression.

She even showed up at Evan’s company and made a scene.

She claimed they had been a couple.

She told everyone that she was the reason I left.

And that Evan loved her.

Half a month later,

Chloe’s family took her away.

She was admitted to a psychiatric care facility.

After saying all that,

my mom got thirsty.

Noah took out a bottle of water from the trunk.

I helped him open the cap.

I took a big drink.

Then the car slowly drove away.

From the corner of my eye,

I saw a figure outside the window.

Tall and thin.

With slightly longer hair.

Noah glanced at me.

“What are you looking at?”

I pulled my gaze back.

“Nothing.”

But quietly,

I looked back one more time.

Evan.

That ride? I got off. Long ago.
