HURRICANE! She Begged My Brother to Save Her—This Time, I Said No Chapter 06
Tyler scoffed.
“You got the wrong person?”
“You just said you’d recognize me even if I were
burned to ashes.”
Chloe clutched the torn underwear in a death grip.
“I was terrified last night.”
“It was dark, and the rain was pouring.”
“The man was wearing a black jacket, and he was
driving an off–road SUV.”
“I… I honestly thought it was you.”
Her voice faded with every word.
Marcus immediately stepped forward to play
peacemaker.
“Since it was a misunderstanding, we can leave it
at that.”
“That’s enough, everyone. Go back to your desks.
Don’t let this disrupt the workday.”
“Not so fast.”
Dad spoke grimly.
Marcus turned toward him.
“Mr. Bennett, the young woman has been through
a terrible shock. It’s understandable that she
might have mistaken someone in that state.”
“Dragging this out won’t do anyone any good.”
Before Dad could answer, Tyler was shaking with
anger.
“You think saying you got the wrong person makes
this go away?”
“She almost ruined me!”
“Without solid evidence, everyone here would still
think I was a criminal!”
Chloe’s eyes filled with tears again.
“Then what do you want me to do?”
“I already admitted I mistook you for someone
else.”
“I’m not pursuing it anymore.”
“I don’t want the money anymore, either.”
“Isn’t that enough?”
I stopped her.
“No.”
“This isn’t over.”
Marcus’s brows drew together.
“Natalie, stop causing trouble.”
“At most, we’ll have Chloe apologize to your family when we get downstairs.”
I ignored him and looked toward the rooftop
entrance.
Footsteps came from the direction of the elevator.
Two uniformed police officers stepped onto the
rooftop.
“Who called 911?”
Chloe’s expression stiffened.
I raised my hand.
“I did.”
Marcus’s face changed too.
“Natalie, why would you call the police?”
“Wasn’t everything already settled?”
I looked at Chloe.
Fresh bruises were still visible on her exposed
skin.
“Was it?”
“She just said she was assaulted.”
“And there are fresh marks on her body.”
“I wanted to help her.”
“Wasn’t calling the police the obvious thing to do?”
Chloe took a step back.
“No.”
“I don’t want the police involved.”
“I’ll take the loss and let it go.”
“I’m not pursuing this anymore.”
One of the officers frowned.
“Ma’am, are you saying you were assaulted?”
Chloe looked away.
“I said I’ll let it go.”
“It was too dark last night.”
“Even if you investigated, you probably wouldn’t
find him.”
“I don’t want to go through it all again.”
“Please… stop forcing me.”
Several people nearby began feeling sorry for her
again.
“Look at her. Let her rest first.”
“It’s normal for a woman not to want to report an
assault.”
“Yeah. Stop pushing her.”
I gave a humorless laugh.
“You weren’t this reluctant when you were demanding $1 million a few minutes ago.”
I walked over until I stood directly in front of her.
“You just said Tyler destroyed your innocence.”
“Well, now the police are here.”
“They can help you find the man who assaulted
you.”
“So why don’t you want justice now?”
I glanced at the torn underwear in her hands.
“And this.”
I turned to the officers.
“Officer, if someone really assaulted her last night,
there should be physical evidence on this.”
The officers immediately stepped forward.
“Ma’am, hand that over as evidence, please.”
Chloe jerked back and hid it behind her.
“Stay back!”
“I already told you I don’t want this investigated.”
“I’m the victim.”
“I have the right to decide whether to report it.”
The officer’s brows drew together.
“A few minutes ago, you publicly accused
someone of assaulting you.”
“You also demanded $1 million.”
“Now you’re saying you don’t want us to investigate?”
“You can’t make an accusation like that and simply
walk away.”
